Just wonderin if i could have a little guidance here ??
I have just purchased 2 IDMAX dual 2 ohm 10" subs and i have from my previous stereo an mrd-1001 alpine amp ( 1000W @ 2ohm ) for sq purposes will this be enough to power the subs , they will be mounted in very small sealed enclosures with magnets outward , or do i need more power . I want the quality at high volumes not just low .
Also i have a pair of Boston Z5 splits and will be running them active , will 65w per driver be enough ?? ( alpine mrv-340 ) the are rated at 140w passive .
thanks
DD Phil
You'd be better off running the 340 bridged for the front end.

The Z series have great crossovers and deserve more power than you have.

x 2 - I've experimented with passive and active with my Bostons, and the crossover makes them, IMHO...... and this was with some fairly funky balanced active crossover gear!

im more worried about the subs , my installer told me the boston has separate input for mid and tweeter so i can utilize my amp and the xover at the same time . I know they might be underpowered so its as easy as buying another amp , wich really isnt an issue ill just go up to the 545 .
back to the subs ?? will they be hungry ?

IMHO

that amp shopuld handle it

If you're after SQ,
I think you'll find 1000wrms into the subs will be fine...
As shiny says in just about every post about subs, you're only using about 50-100wrms for average music listening...
For sq, it will be absolutely fine, Alpine make great amps and it's probably underrated on power too.

And if you dont like it once you've installed it (i highly doubt that), you can always rip it out and buy a new, more powerful amp... Not like you're losing much here as you already own the amp tongue.gif

thanks guys , your help is greatly appreciated . I am thinking that i will upgrade the small amp ( not that small ohmy.gif ) and get the 540 if i can find one or the 545 . no point messin around and have to swap and change .
as for the subs i need to mention that i listen to my music loud , and some of it is very fast . what i dont want is the subs to sound like they are popping because the amp isnt pushing the drivers fast enough ( if that sound right ) . i am actually very happy with the amp as it is very subtle and the digital controller that comes with it is great .
Has anyone worked with the Z5's before , is my installer correct about the separate inputs on the xover ? he seems to know his stuff preety well .
thanks again for yur help guys
