Hi all,

I bought the twin pioneer 12" subs last week, think they are w305c. Today I noticed one is making a strange rattling noise. So I turned it off and slighty pushed the sub in and out and it is scraping. My brother informed me the it is most likly the voice coil.
I rang up strathfield car radios and they told me they will have to send it back to the manufacture to get it tested for warrenty to see that I haven't over driven them. Is that even possible? and what are my rights for getting this replaced straight away as I have hardly touched them as I have been at work?

Thanks

what amp you have? (size, output power etc.)

Certainly is possible, what they mean is make sure you havn't over powered them drastically.

This is the amp I have

GM-D510M

This is the subs

2xTWS-305C

I was told it was a good combo.
SILVR6
well you weren't overpowering them.
mack202
well that is a goot match up, but it doesn't mean you weren't overpowering them.
If you tried to turn up the volume to high to a level that the amp cannot handle, it will output a distorted/clipped signal. This can be like around 3 times more powerful than the amps rated power apparantly, and it is also a very harsh signal. This means that you CAN overpower it, although not in the normal sense.

Did you notice that the subs sounded bad when you last cranked them full volume?

hopefully they give you a replacement reguardless, and if it was your fault, well thats a good lesson learnt.

The subs sound fine in the car, cannot hear it at all, only noticed because I was cleaning my car and had it at low volume, opened the boot and noticed the rattle.
I have only played them once before that, reasonably loud when I first got them to test it out and haven't used them since as I have been at work.

Well Funny things happen, I drove an hr and a half to strathfield car radios this morning. Preparing myself for a fight to get them replaced. As I said the subs still sounded fine in the car so I thought stuff it and turned them up. Cruising along and finally get there.
I went in and explained the situation to the guy, he said he wanted to have a look. So I take him over and show him and guess what? It fixed it self and was working perfectly. Made me look like an idiot anyway but I'm happy again now :-)
My theory is maybe it was a bit of dried glue scraping or someting like that. Any ideas what could have caused this? Plus no more scraping when I push the sub in and out now either.

hmmm i can't think what the reason is (but that doesn't mean much tongue.gif), but i do have a possible reason for why maybe the sub made a scraping sound the first time and not now.
You may have not pushed the cone straight back, so maybe you pushed it closer to the outside of the cone. This will cause the voicecoil to scrape against the magnet. You probably pushed it in straight the second time.

Maybe you could describe what went wrong in a little more detail? like what sort of noise, and where exactly did you think it was coming from
blade-
Well the noise was like a high pitch crackling noise. It was defently coming from the sub. When i pressed lightly on the bottom of the sub (the rubber bit) the noise stopped. When I touched the top slightly the noise got loud and lower pitched. I guess I'm just happy that its gone and hope it never comes back ;-)

Have you noticed whether it happened when the car was not started? I was having a similar problem and i found that when i start the car, it goes away...i assume due to the power the amp draws
