Got the latest copy of Sony PULSE today, and saw these rather more subtle 'Stream Regnum' amplifiers, boasting among other things:

* Larger choke coils
* Toriodal's with lower electro-flux in the final amplification stage for flawless sound
* Better mounting and heat distribution
* Multiple methods for reducing vibration

So, I was wondering how these classier looking amps compare to the old Sony ES series, is this an SQ lineup, like Sony was once famous for?
Or just a re-hash of the XPLOD series?

I'm intrigued. Industry experts, what's the go? smile.gif

considering they have "XPLOD" written on them, i would hazard the guess and say they are just a new season range of xplod gear.
yes they do look more attractive, not as brash as the older red ones.
the power outputs seem impressive too (eg. 2x200wrms/1x500wrms), but then again, it would make marketing sense to release the higher powered models first.
i think the best thing to do is sit, and wait for some feedback about how they compare to the older ones

"Toriodal's with lower electro-flux in the final amplification stage for flawless sound"

Whats a toroid doing in the amp stage? Unless the marketing department has got onto this. Low flux as well, yeah i guess they have smile.gif

class D use torroids in the output (not as tranformers) just as the formers for the LPF (RL circuit) - but yeah marketing at its best wink.gif

The XMSD46X and XMSD-51X will be reviewed in the next issue of Auto Salon magazine versus equivalent amps from Coustic, Kenwood and Fusion. I think you'll find the XSMD61X will be featured in the rehashed Car Stereo Australia too, but this will be a few months off yet I think.

Same **** different stink by the looks.

They are lovely looking amps, I have a couple on hand.

Must admit I haven't pulled one appart yet, might do it over the weekend...

Arghhhh they're hideous and filled with marketing bollocks - ya for sony.

Started to pull one apart and lost interest when I found there was about 500 screws to take the PCB out to get a decent look at the components... :s
