Hi there, im in the market for a new headunit as my rockford amp aint to keen on 1 rca from a 3 year old jvc h/u!!
Ive been looking around but theres not much i can find that has a decent user eq apart from the pioneer 8650 and alpine 9855 that doesnt cost the earth and i dont want to get a seperate eq. what are some other units that retail under $1799 that have mp3 aswell ? Or is the 8650 my best bet? So far ive looked at pioneer, alpine,kenwood , jvc, fusion. Anyone used rockford units??

mate how about the new Kenwood KDC-X8529 its got 3 x 5volt pre-outs 24bit burr-brown DAC and u can also switch the internal amp off. Oh and it plays mp3s too. Just something to consider RRP $899 im sure u can get it cheaper.
If you want a RF SQ unit there is only one the 8250Ti its a rebadged Denon unit similiar to the Z1.
In pro mode the Eclipse cd8455 has a 10 Band Parametric EQ, and a 7 band EQ in regular mode, also offers 8V outputs at a low 55ohm impedance, time correction, 24 Bit D/A converter, SRS CS2 ( a form of surround sound), switchable between Front rear and sub, and hi mid subwoofer for a 3 way setup, Fully adjustable crossover and only costs $1049
The CDA7998R from alpine is also a killer unit, i'm currently running one and it does everything i need, 3 way mode, time correction, eq and crossover, also comes with the fantom face, unit costs $1699

i think it depends on how much u want to spend....there'r a a few 8650 or 9835 9855 used goin for excellecent prices these few weeks in the fourm.n i reckon they r very worth the money. IMO for the money u pay for the 8650 -big diff of rrp n actual prices in shops. theres nothing close to it in the market. it has everything u need time correction, ample EQ, crossover etc2. its a good buy i say. u need to spend a lot more to get something in say eclipse or nakamichi to get 1/2 the functions. ive played around with both the 8650 n 9855....no diff in SQ wise watsoever....but i liek the apline simple look in some way.

Btw, I think the Nak has come up with a new HU with mp3....but there is no eq or time correction. I will still choose it, pick up some external eq/crossover combo later on.

Pioneers are great if you want features...personally i will take better SQ any day...after replacing a DEH-P1y with an Eclipse 8445 my customer couldn't believe the difference in SQ...and the Eclipse is CHEAPER than the Pioneer was...it just depends on where your priorities lie...
I'd go the HX-D2 IMO..

" kino****a " you ears really neeed to see a doctor if you really can't distingush the different between the 2 HU. Orrr maybe you did not listen to them using a propper speaker. threr is quite a big different between the chacactor of Pioneer and Alpine. 9835 is my vote.

But yea....if u think so.....installed 2 diff ones in my gfs car.....listen to both a bit.like 1hr.....maybe should have listend more.....but then that time.the main motive was to play with all the functions n see which one is the better HU. Conculsion...the SQ diff wasnt that much if any..and bottom line.i would be very satisfied with either 1 of them.
ps...ohh...n i ran them active to dyns. hihihih

HXD-2 is the sh!t. Thumbs up to this head unit.
i had an 8650 and i got an eclipse 5425 now and id say the eclipse is just as good if not better
I run a pioneer and my system sounds OK *shrugs*
Infact the new DEX-P90RS looks like a revamped version of my HU. Anyway go for the Unit that does what you want and suits your tastes.
