How good are these splits?
http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?...eMax=&SUBCATID=
They are $150 and "on paper" have features of splits which are a lot more expensive.
So how do these sound compared to a $300 set of splits?
How are these pioneers:

Basically I want good sound with good value, but I rather spend more money to get something good than less for something not so good
Any feedback would be great!

I like these and I'd say they are more favourable to many other splits at this price level.
Go and have a listen to them. I describe the sound as "warm" and this may not be to everyone's liking. A very nice sounding splits, though.

been discussed at length many times before.
if you do a search you will find plenty of threads on them, e.g:

The problem is I can not listen to them.
My local (and only) Jaycar store doesn't have a speaker board set up.
Same goes with the pioneers or any other audio product as I'll be buying them from e-bay.
So the more info the better!
I am looking to spend up to around $300

For $300 you should be able to get a pair of Focal 165A's (I got mine for around the $270 mark). Doubt you'd find them on eBay though.

I'd personally say not to go for the pioneers...mainly because I'm not a fan of mainstream speakers. I've listened to some of the lower-middle range Clarions and they sounded **** in my opinion. Bass ultra heavy, treble ultra sharp and midbass hollow-sounding.
The Kevlars I would describe as warm bass and lighter midbass. Not ideal, but very few speakers are. The tweeters I think are much better than a lot of speakers in that price range.
You could try order a set of VDO MPC 1700's off ebay. I know that a dealer seems to be offloading remaining stock there. If you search around, VDO has recently gotten a cult following due to the recent discovery that VDO speakers are actually just peerless speakers (a great danish value brand). I haven't listened to them though, but if the HPC1700's are a merely upgraded version of the MPC1700's, then i'm assuming the MPCs would be excellent value and very nice sounding. Should be able to get for cheap too!

In fact you can, and much, much cheaper then that.

How are the FOCAL Polyglass 165V2???
Are they better than the 165A's?
It's just that the Focal splits with the kevlar woofers seem to be extremely expensive, where as the Pioneer kevlar splits are pretty reasonably priced.

if you are choosing from the jaycar kevlars and the pioneers, i would go with the pioneers, slightly better sound in my opinion, and cheaper too!

the jaycars are 150 retail whereas the pioneers are 500 retail, on ebay you can get the pioneers for around 300 delivered so they are double the price, not cheaper

i picked up a pair just the other day and im extremly happy with them. at first they sounded a bit hollow but when i put them in a sealed box the speakers sounded great.
if running mine off the deck and i immagine if you were to amp them they would sound even better. they would go well with a sub.
for value for money ($119) id go for the jaycars.
