hi guys, i was just curious about the RF X162s splits, im on the market for a set of splits, and i know that alot of ppl swear by thier Dyn's or thier utopias ect. an i agree they do sound great, but has anyone ever heard or ownd a pair of these rockfords, any one wit experience is welcome as these splits are either not talked about cos thier sh@t, theyre not worth the money or they are true unsung heroes. i know they retail for about $1500, but a pair have come up on offer to me for about $900, i understand that this is a similar price range as the dyn's and the old utopia's or K2P's, this in mind would you recommend them???
And for the people in the know, i was curious as to how much the type RF amps were??
-the X4.C/X4.A
-and the X3.C/X3.A obviously to power these splits...
Thanks heaps

Type RF amps are ridiculously priced here forget them unless you are going to import.

Now the X162s are a different story you can get these for $500 from ebay lately. I toyed with getting these last year over my Elites but could not find anyone who had heard a set and give me an unbiased opinion I know someone who has attended CES in Jan this year where they had the opportunity to hear a pair from what I've been told they are very similiar the MB Quart Reference set.
the power series seems a bit better value in terms of power per dollar (in the amp range that is)
looks like the new power series is based on the old type rf amps anyway using the same coooling design and very similar circuit layout.
im very happy with my power series rf amps
as far as speakers go id go mbq, well i wouldnt but if you like that kind of speaker id choose that over an rf speaker.
for tweeters :
metal dome id choose focal
softdome id choose dyn/scanspeak

If those the the RF speakers i'm thinkign fo I wouldn't spendmroe than $200 on them. I'm prety sure I installed a set a few months back - very dissapointing sound, nowhere near as good as the old RF Audiophile serries.

how sad that such an accomplished company can produce such a let down... thanks for the warning, looks like i might have to go for dyn's after all... are the dyn's really that good of a speaker??? ive never heard em but it seems that every man an his dog owns a pair!!!

They own them for a reason
They do sound very good. Not many people can argue with their sound quality.
Focal Utopias would be rated in the same league, Diamond Audio splits are nice sounding speakers too (my friend has a set and honestly, I don't think he needs a sub with them things!!!)

even if the rf speakers are made in the same factory as the mbqs i still prefer the build quality over the rf speakers
ive heard the rf demo car and ive seen the full range of rf gear @ stylyn for the rf industry night they had a while ago.
personally id stick to the big professional companies that are known for mids and tweeters:
dynaudio
scanspeak
mbq
focal
there are lots of other brands but these are the major speakers ive heard incar, all very impressive and all have there own strong and weak points.
the choice is not simple.
metal dome tweeters are the specialty for mbq and focal. The question is what do your ears prefer. WHere can you hear these is another question
