Hey guys, i just recently bought a set of second hand Boston Z6's at a very very reasonable price

and because i am not made of money i cant really afford a high end amplifier and was looking at the new Jaycar range. Now will i be doing such a high end set of splits any justice running off the Jaycar? Being unbelievable value for money i am quite keen on the new range.
Thanks in advance
Musky

:D
just a good install will do them justice, the amp you own should work well
remember to sound-deaden the doors and build a strong door pod thats attached to the door frame not the trim.(im assuming mid are going in the door)
should be incredible
good luck

I wouldn't run Z6s off a jaycar amp look in the for sale section for a good 2nd hand amp I'd even wait a good while until one shows up.

I've had my Z6's running off of an Alpine MRV-F409, and also a SRx3. The Alpine did a bit more justice (but it had more power going into them)
The more power the better

(Shortly ill be running them off of an Audison VRx 4.300)

well i think it is really up to you on this one...
in terms of sound it won't make much of a difference in amps with the same power...but
if you don't feel good supplying the Z6's with a jaycar amp (which it sounds like) then don't do it! coz you'll just end up replacing it later on anyway... but if that wank factor doesn't matter to you then go the jaycar and spend your money on the install instead
me...i would save up some money and go the wank factor! YEAH!

Z6's are Awesome, i love 'em. Many great experiences with Boston, unfortunately not good experiences with jaycar amps, very noisy and unreliable. if your really working on a budget get a well branded second hander or why not even look at an alpine v power 4 channel. run channels 1+2 into each tweeter ans 3+4 into each 6, bi amping the boston crossovers, yeah its only 40rms into each driver but certainly better sound than a jaycar, and a good brand name. Hey it's only $299 retail

Get the most powerful fullrange jaycar amp you can get or look second hand, there;s some good buys out there - ie 2x200watts RMS earthquake nhailator amps for $250 etc etc etc.

ive got an eclipse 8454. i was looking at the 2x150 jaycar amp.
the thing with buying off the FS forums is that what are the chances of getting the same model mono (as speaker amp) to run my sub with? i'm all about symmetry and hopefully a little down the track i will have my boot all tidied up and looking shmick....
the jaycar cant be too bad surely?

nothing wrong with jaycar....but those Z6's benefit hugely by the amount of power you put into them...so get as much power into them as you can afford and you'll love it!
i went from 100WRMS to 400WRMS and the difference was well worth the money!

a jaycar 4 channel bridged
on another note tho.. ive got a V-Net 4100, very similar specs to the jaycar 4x100, but the thing is a very very good amp quality wise. should be able to pick one up for about $300 second hand

why not sell the Z6's to me. That would fix your problem.
Any one know the Street price of Z6's

RRP = $1999
Street price would depend on who you know, but would most likely be between $1500-1700 or so.
If your lucky, you might find a set like mine. I'm the 3rd owner, but they were still brand new. The previous 2 guys who owned them before me never got around to using them. I almost saved $1k off the retail price

Use 16g minimum, try 12g on 6's and 16g on tweeters, and i agree that the more power the better, whats your budget.... just be careful as you've got an 8V output and cheap amps may not take this much input power. be careful
i'm feeding my Z's 170.6rms per speaker, that's 371.2rms per side from a new mrvf545 Alpine and its awesome, i've previously ran them from two Boston GT22 amps (one each side) and from an eclipse PA5422, it has always sounded great, although the eclipse seemed to be a little cleaner than the others even if it was less power.
Good Luck, try the for sale forum, i've seen a pa5422 for $300, many PG amps, Alpine 4 Channels

good to hear that someone else loves the elcipse pa5422
i use to own one and was extremely impressed very powerful and clean
i opened mine up an dwas very pleasently surprised to see that the amp is two 2 channels amps in one chassis.
seemed a lot more powerful than its rating of 4 x85watts rms or 2 x240watts rms

wow thats a lot of power
my DA 4ch amp bridged puts out 2x400WRMS @ 4ohms
although not recommended since the Z6 is 3ohm speaker, needless to say I am careful when turning my volume up...
i quite like eclipse amps as well...it doesn't get as much exposure on these forums as it deserves

wow thats a massive amp
4x100 vs 2 x400 thats a massive jump in power to your components
did you really feel that 4 times the power has made that much difference??
niteflyer
Jun 11 2005, 06:17 PM
i think that much of a jump in power makes a difference to all speakers
it gave my Z6's a greater front stage presence mainly due to a stronger midbass and midrange but I did have to adjust my tweeter settings on the crossover to -4dB coz they were a little too bright
i tried biamping thru the crossover but it didn't sound nearly as good IMO
