Full Version: New DD-A Component Speakers

DD Phil
As many will know Jassa (the guru at DD) and Anselm, from Andrian Audio in Germany, have been working together for several years now to develop a new, ultra high end component speaker system.

I heard a set that was close to production in the USA last year, they were breath taking. However they have continued tweaking the crossover and final spec of the tweeter to arrive at what you see here today.

Woofer has a cast basket, the cone is aluminum, using a 38mm aluminum coil with highest temp wire with direct connect termination.

Tweeter uses a 28mm coil, cloth dome, highest temp wire. Enclosed damped chamber, 500Hz Fs, Housing and rear chamber are CNC machined from aluminum

Crossover uses metalised poly caps, low inductance coils, poly fused, crossover is at 3000Hz.

The new set is due in Australia late this year.

Do you know what the retail on these will be Phil?

Would consider giving them a try.

edit; beaten.
Fudd
ohhh pretty,

knowing Anslem, they will be pretty damn nice.

Will you be able to purchase the speakers without the crossovers? Looks like a bit of $$ has gone into the crossovers, along with the speakers.
Someone like myself would benefit from being able to buy the speakers seperately.
~Spyne~
i would love to demo these in my car....very keen to find out price
mr_sikma
whats the power specs...
DD Phil
We're hoping to keep the price under $1000! smile.gif

Man those x-overs look alot like the x-overs on the Brax 2.1 series components
Hens
yes, they are very sexy crossovers

38mm Voice Coil for something wanting to be a top SQ speaker is a little on the small side.

I predict this to be like most other DD stuff, great bang for your buck, but lacking a little comparred to the major players.

WTF. DD lacking a little compared to the major players. LMFAO.
~thematt~
He has a point DBNathan. 35mm is a very small coil in the greater market of competitors.

The cast basket also worries me a bit, especially if the price will be sitting around $1k.
~Sparkles~
Well the specs themselves dont do a lot for me and the asthetics dont do a great deal for me either to be honest.
BUT I do look forward to demo'ing them to hear them. Especially being that Anselm has been involved with their development

Considering this is ment to be an SQ product, then yes, Dd has always been lacking in SQ. There is no doubt to that statement. AS DD phill says, look at the records, or past event winners.

We have many winners, including an Australian CAASQ Champion. Thanks for pointing that out. smile.gif

Looks the goods, nice X/over too .. $1000 or anything near it seems a little over the top though..
especially given how basic they appear to be.

more like $600-700 seems more reasonable, especially given what this stuff really costs to make.
I realise that a majority of car audio is priced to it's performance not to it's actual assembly cost,
to me I'm not sold on them being worth that kind of money despite them possibly being better than
some $1200 components on the market. If your going to put something into that level of the market
it's got to meet the markets demand on all levels, not just on performance. most people don't
have a clue about audio and will judge the product based on everything else other than what it sounds like.

Just my thoughts at least.

These are hand-built in Germany by ANSELM ANDRIAN and compare to other $2000+ sets......

I would be keen for a listen to these Phil.

Yeah, but people are fickle Phil.

And people have heavy brand association and image.

Yeah, but people are fickle Phil

So true!
But things change when you start listening and thoughts turn to "Why don't my car sound this good?" (Unless a person is REALLY stubborn)

When will there be more info like power handling, woofer size, materials & pics be revealed?

Knowing DD, should be tasty!! smile.gif

Five Star
Wouldn't mind a listen...

Also phil, any idea how much importing DD subs into NZ will cost? I contacted DD in america and they said they'd have to send over from US or AUS. Then they said they couldn't sort out shipping for me and I'd have to do it myself. fool.gif

Yeah but we only have you saying that! Have you even heard them Phil? Have there been any other people who ARENT linked to DD hear them, have there been any klippel (or similar) tests done with results we can see.

People that buy speakers that are arround the $1k per pair pricepoint buy them based on their performance, unless they are COMPLETE IDIOTS!

They are in the same price range as Dynaudio System 242GT splits and the MB Quart Premium splits, both are benchmarks in the industry.

The proof is in the pudding so to speak, I guess we will have to wait and see what they are like, it looks like they are "well bred" wink.gif

Its funny, until recently I would have taken a set of MB Quarts any day over a set of Dyn's. Then I heard a set Drew setup and I feel in love with them. Its amazing what some tuning and installation can do.

Yes, speakers themselves play a large part of their over all sound, however installation is hugely important aswell.

But some people love MB Quart over Dynaudio and vice versa, if there was one speaker that did everything perfectly we would never have these discussions on the forums. wink.gif

I like both brands for different reasons, it is like BMW and Audi, both excellent car manufacturers, but both a little different wink.gif

Interesting. I know it's a personal choice, but for me, I would go tend to go Dyn over Quart.

Crossover looks like a close rip off of Seas Lotus

~thematt~
Well they arent. Seas didnt have them first.

Brax was putting out clear cover crossovers long before either of them....

Doesnt make any of them better or worse...
Luke352
And Eton (or Phass), also AudioSystem and the list goes on, speaking of AudioSystem, someone was talling me that the designer of these Anselm Andrian is actually also the man behind AudioSystem's speakers. http://www.audiocar.pl/galeria/audiosystem.../hx165phase.htm Those ones look like they actually share the same woofer frame, not that that tells you much since lots of Audio gear these days has lots of similarities and shared components.
