With the rate of stolen and jacked imports of late I'm thinking of installing a tracking alarm.

Something along the lines of either Intelli Trac (www.intellitrac.com.au) or a car-com (www.carcom.com.au)

Has anyone here had one of these syetems installed to their vehicle?

I'm mainly interested in how effective (and $$) thier monitoring systems are etc.

Thanks

Olie

Also consider quiktrack. From memory they are $1000 for the unit plus monitoring fees.

Vehicle tracking is an excellent means of making your car more secure just make sure the system you purchase is both GPS and GSM communications and perhaps you should consider self tracking systems, they are usually less expensive, even a GSM paging alarm can be used to track your vehicle provided you use the right SIM card, you can go online and find the location of that SIM card (your car) through an independent website such as www.Itrack123.com.au or www.gofinder.net . It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to monitor your vehicle so ring around and get prices and coverage area,no good if it cant track past Campbelltown, I know Quicktrak's old sytem wont unless they have recently upgraded.

Quick track seems rediculously expensive for monitoring!

Both I mentioned use GSM/GPS to create a "geo fence" while your car is parked. if it moves more than 5m it will set off the alarm.

Seems there isnt much info on these kicking around sad.gif

Try radio-active in Ingleburn, Sydney. He has a product as well as being able to suggest other options. I would suggest ringing him. cheers..fossil

I use a Rojone unit. It uses gsm and calls me and talks to me if there is a problem. I can also call it and get a posistion(GPS function) and disable car if needed or unlock it etc

Anyway they work great, arent expensive, and only on going cost is sim card. I have one on a $9/month plan. as I dont make calls on unit, the cost is more or less fixed
oh and its an aussie made unit.

Quiktrak is monitored 24/7 though, they also use their own radio network for monitoring. I have used a few of the GSM pagers, tracking systems and have been pretty unimpressed to be honest...GSM = network delays, no coverage areas etc... I have been testing a module before, set the alarm off and the text arrived about an hour later. Quicktrak is the most expensive but it is also the best system. Also quicktrak monitoring notify the police on your behalf and have the option of remotely disabling the car when notified by the police it is safe to do so.

Comparing Quiktrak to some of the GSM modules on the market is like comparing a HZ with a HSV GTS they both do the same job but the later model is a lot more versatile and refined

+1 for QT. have it on two vehicles.
read somewhere that the local council uses it as well.
