Im currently running some Pioneer TSC-160r splits in my VT commodore, which I just started to run active (sounds SOOO much better taking that crapty crossover out of the picture), but I'm after a little more clarity and volume, so Ive been considering upgrading the tweeters to Vifa XT25s, problem is of course theyre hard to come by locally (Brisbane) so auditionings a bit hard, it'll be a bit of a leap of faith buying online (speakbits.com.au) as I'm not sure if they would suit the setup well? I plan on running them high in the dash where the stock tweeters reside, in custom fibreglass housings directed at the driver's seat.
I don't have the budget for changing my mids, least not yet, and Ive heard good things bout the XT25s, but is the "upgrade" worth it? The amp I'm using is a JL audio 300/4 so thats about 75wrms to each speaker.
Quick edit:
Specifically the Vifas Im thinking of are the VIFA XT25TG-30-04's. the VIFA XT25SC-30-04's look similiar but are a bit more expensive, any real-world difference between the 2?

The SC's are shielded, the TG's are good and cheaper.
I'd mount them in the kicks, and use reflections to help the staging. They tend to be a bit harsh on-axis in a car (home is fine).
JL 'slash' are nice amp (I have 3 of them

).
Try www.advanceae.com.au for a local supplier (gold coast)
also, with the vifa's you can reduce the crossover down to 3kHz or so. The 160R tweeters don't like going below 5kHz.

What I might do before installing then is just bluetack em round the place till i find a listening position I like.
What point to cross them over at is what initially had me worried, considering Ive heard lots of mention of using these in a 3 way setup (beyond my needs) but if they can cross lower than the current tweeters then no worries.
Cheers bout the supplier too they're a tad more expensive but pickup means alot.

Cruiser runs XT25's in his car and although I havent listened to it, it always scores very well at comps, also If you don't want to buy them online, I believe Drew at Northfield Moorooka can source them for you.

I used to have the XT25's but I found the Morel MT23's sound nicer.

Well Ive just dodgied up a temporary install (Cheers to Drew from Northfield for supplying me the XT25s thanks mate) and they have blown me away. Got them bluetacked behind the side mirrors aimed towards the opposite seat (found too sharp directly at driver) and there simply is no comparison to my old tweeters. EXTREMELY clear and detailed, couldn't believe how much detail I was missing out before. Very efficient too, got my gains turned right down and I still think they're a little too loud, not to mention volume I don't think I was able to get these too distort from loud playing even once, they just love to get loud!
Only complaint is that the higher frequencies are still a BIT too tingy? Hurt my ears if any really high notes are played and unfortunately my Headunit (IVA-w200e) only lets me turn down the treble at 17.5khz max, whereas I believe 20khz to be the trouble spot.
Will be doing some custom pods asap, thinking of moving them a tad higher onto the A pillar for the pods, going to put a grill on them as well to help aid a factory appearance.

I think you might find the frequency bugging you is lower than 17.5 so keep playing with the eq.

Your right 15khz does seem to help alot, but I feel I really need a proper EQ to really get these tweeters to reach their full potential.
Out of interest how are yours mounted? I tried facing them towards the windscreen and that seemed to make them alot smoother however it also made them sound less distinct. Going to start making pods for them tomorrow

Cruiser has his pointing towards the windscreen.
