Hey guys, have checked everywhere for an update disc but can only find them new from holden or whereis for $350+...

NO WAY KNOWN im paying that, it is such a rip off and im better off buying a navman or tom tom for that kind of money.

The problem is as the GTS has integrated sat nav and now ive bought the vdo dayton tv tuner with aux input i'de really like to have functioning sat nav. The disc that came with the car is a sydney only disc as that is where i bought it from.

Does anyone know where i can buy one 2nd hand or "borrow" a Victorian/Australian disc of any version (current would be a bonus) for "testing" purposes tongue.gif wink.gif
TEGBOY
Oi! Get on msn tonight. I reckon I know someone with that nav system, and I am pretty sure he will have the disc.
broadz
Damn that was quick, thanks clint... I'll be on after 8 smile.gif
TEGBOY
I will be on after 11pm, I have to work until that time.
broadz
chat to you then, i spose smile.gif
Pakman
Hey Broadz, do you mean the MO5712 disc?
broadz
as in the firmware updrade? if so, that too would be handy as mine is still 1999 firmware.
I'm actually after the map disc. I bought one off Ebay (CIQ version 10) and ended up being the wrong kind.

There are 2 types: Phillips Carin and VDO Dayton CIQ. mine's the Phillips Carin.

Cheers
Pakman
Yes the disc i'm talking about is the firmware disc, i've asked VDO about it before and thats what they told me i needed to get for the newer version disc's.
I bought mine off ebay not that long ago and am yet to see if it works. As my VDO unit's in the box in the cupboard but on testing it found it didn't read my map disc, asked VDO and the MO5712 is what i was told to get.
But as your's is a Phillips one i'm not sure if it would work with it, or apply the same way. sad.gif
broadz
hmm, why isnt it made simple sad.gif

i wonder if the later "firmware" allow it to play CIQ discs?
synical
still lookin for the disc? even though its been a month. lol.

i can get my hands on both CIQ and Carin, version 13.
Pakman
Hey Danny, i updated my firmware with that update disc and it works a treat. Are you still having problems with yours?
broadz
nah not really, mine seems to be working. what exactly does the update disc do?

hows ur install comin along and when are we getting pics!!!! biggrin.gif
Pakman
Oh ok, the disc updates something.... unknw.gif lol, i know the newer discs dont work unless its done. If could work with your unit, i'll email VDO tomorrow and ask as i need to ask about something else. good.gif

Hows my install going? Well the centre speakers in, and i'm just waitin on the paint guys to get back to me with the paint to paint it. I've got some new pics, i'll try have them up tomorrow. smile.gif
synical
what model nav unit do you have? the MO5712 should work with most VDO dayton nav systems. this is to ensure that maps version 13 and onwards are readable. the latest version is 14. smile.gif

as said, i can get my hands on the latest mapping software. just ask smile.gif ill do it for "mates rates" lol.

I am also looking for a newer CD or an activation for my current disk. I bought my new VDO Dayton MS 4150 RS (radio / nav system combination) from ebay Germany, so it came with a European CD. I found a second hand Australian Whereis C-IQ VDO Dayton version 10 CD disk, but my nav system asks me for an activation code. Any ideas how would I find this code - it's not on or in the box? The seller has no idea where the code would be.
synical
your unit will contain an NAV ID code
you get that code, then call up continental vdo aftermarket sales.
give them the NAV ID and they will give you an activation key.

Rip Off? Street level maps to get you to where your going within a few meters Australia wide and $350 is too much to pay!

Buy a paper directory mate. You will be ahead a bunch of dollars. Granted the wank value isn't the same but your understanding of value will not be compromised!
broadz
HAHA!!!! It is a rip off when you can buy a Navman or TomTom far cheaper, and a lot better quality map....

The HSV one is absolute garbage, in fact I still take my navman with me. $350 isnt great value these days, with the price drop of GPS devices what idiot would pay $350 for an updated map on an (extremely) outdated device.

Maui, or anyone else... do you have a software/firmware update disc i could "borrow"
Pakman
laugh.gif that would be me huh. Yeah i've got one you can borrow.....as long as i get it black. hahaha

Hi All, I have a Phillips Carin (VDO) GPS that only has the WA and SA disk with it the East coast disk has been misplaced over time as it has been a while since we tried to install and get it working in my car.
Originally the unit had a bad gyro and needed a repair, when I got it back after almost 5 months (an acquaintance fixed it) I was over it and put the project on hold, that was almost three years ago. Over the past couple of weeks my mate and I have been back tracking where we left off. Yesterday we finally finished the upgrade/ conversions. The GPS is installed it in my Soarer UZZ32, my friend has converted everything to run through the original Soarer NTSC colour TV/ GPS screen. The car now has a hamburger with the lot, the original colour Reversing camera, and now fully operational TV, GPS, DVD, and a VHS player/recorder installed and working.
We had a big dissapointment though when we fired up the GPS and found that the East coast map was not in the unit, it had been sent with the unit when it was repaired some 3.5 years ago, but did not come back. I found the 2nd disk and the unit works fine.
Does anyone know where I can get a loan of some disks to try out the GPS?
I found this discussion board on a google search, seems some of you know your stuff, my email address is rowfam@people.net.au

thanks for your time
