I'm looking at getting a new head unit in a few weeks, around the end of the month maybe. I want to spend up to $800, but I'm willing to spend a little bit extra if needed be.
So far I've come up with the following:

Alpine 9887
Clarion DXZ776USB
Eclipse CD7100

Is there any other head units I should consider?
My old head unit was a Alpine 9833 so I'm after something with around the same tuning features. The head unit will be running 3-way fronts, a rear fill and a 12" sub. Any feedback on the above head units or any others will be much appreciated.

If you like SQ, then the clarion isn't the best option.
Alpine has better (IMO) tunability and reasonable sound
Eclipse is ok too, but a little lacking in upgrade-ability (like, if you want a processor later)

if ur a previous alpine user, u will almost certainly find navigating and changing settings on the eclipse quite difficult to pick up too....BUT it is an excellent unit, but i'm with simon - the alpine is cheaper, and easier to upgrade with

i have a cd7000 in one car and a 9887 for my other car

7100 over 7000 isnt to much different.

i chose the 9887 for price, appearance and 3 way tuneability.

i found being a experienced user with a whole range of units that the 9887 and 7100 were both easy to navigate once you understood the menu layout. in all other aspects i find them comprable to one and other and its really a user opinion, some say that they found the alpine to be crisper some say the eclipse is more detailed. its very difficult to find 2 different headunits set up exactly the same and on the same amps speakers and install tuned perfectly and then determine which one produces greater sound quality

IMO go alpine for the reasons above, price, looks, upgradability.

The 9887 looks to be the winner so far.
Does this unit and the 9833 have the exact same tuning features? I've noticed that the price is alot less then the 9833 when it first came out, would this just be because it doesn't have a motorised flip-out face? I was also looking at it on the Alpine website and saw this thing called MultEQ, does anyone know much about it?

I have the CD7100 in my car and I know of quite a few others who do as well. I have only good things to say about it but I cannot give a comparison not having used either of the other two units.

The clarion hd-x2 does 3 way+ sub active.
Not sure of the others but, if u find a hu that can do upto 800hz on the sub channels lowpass filter and also the mid channels high pass needs to go upto 800hz aswell. That way u can run the tweet of the high ch, the midrange of the mid ch and the midwoofer from the sub ch, spliting the rca to the midbass amp and the sub amp, then use the LPass and high pass filters on the amps.
if the hu only does 200hz on the sub LP filter and 200hz on the HP filter for the mid, u will definatly have to option the processor for 3way+sub active..........cors

Which one does what YOU want in a HU ?

if more than one, then which one looks better ?

You now have your answer.

All the units seem like they are great SQ units, so forget the *mine sounds better* stuff from fan boys and just go with the above.

peace
