Hi guys just wanted some advice i have a 1990 laser tx3 hatchback i am looking at putting my idamx10 in the rear drivers side corner (so on the other side of the tail light) i know this is commonly done by many audio shops just wanted to know how this would affect the sound in a hatchback compared to just having a normal mdf box and facing the sub towards the rear of the car. Your help and opinion would be greatly appreciated as i have a great idea for my boot install but dont want to sacrifice the sound too much.
Cheers James

just play around with the location of the sub box until you find the sweet spot.
if you need a starting point, you could either try facing the sub upwards or point the sub back to the hatch door

Hmmm yeah, where it *looks* good is more important than how it *sounds*. K
Your best bet *IMO* is to play around and *listen* to what works best, then go from there.

In my hatch (Pulsar) I found it sounded best in the centre of the hatch area, so now I have a sub instead of a spare wheel.
The absolutely best sounding position is in the front, with the other speakers, but for practicality you should put it where you want it to go.

so you'd rather have a nice looking boot than a nice sounding boot?

lol!
well i guess for some its all about the looks.
unless your going for an all out super SQ champ winning car, my suggestion would be to come up with an idea of where you want it to sit. then try and load it off the boot or somthing and you can go from there.
i reckon in a hatch put it on one side, fire it accross the boot with a silight angle up to the rear shelf. you havnt exactly got much space in the boot so you may have to comprimise

Realistically , i never care about looks, u should know that.
The guy was asking where he should put it , the first step is to put it somewhere he wants it,somewhere it looks good to him, then move it around.
Because we all know that when we move around the subs we get to the point where we look at waht we thought would sound good aswell as looking in place.Best to start there............cors
EDIT# plus when u cant tell the difference between each sub position the spot that looks the best is the best#

I got a hatchback and I found that it sounded sweet by having it behind the drivers side tail lights facing 45 degrees towards the back of the car and towards the center of the car... if that makes sense. It took a bit of room and looked a little out of place, but it might might work well in your car.
I have seen a few people post that facing the sub towards the back of the car in the center directly behind the seat also sounds good, but you will need to sound deaden the back to stop any resonance.
At the moment I have my sub mounted into my parcel tray with a ported box integrated underneath it. It sounds sweet and is very clear.
Hope this has given you some ideas. Best way is to see if your prefer your boot to look nice or your car to sounds nice. If your after sound, just test different spots out. It its looks, make it look nice and test it, then adjust as necessary.

was thinking of having it on the side with the amps in the floor just dont want the setup to make it sound like crap and cant really test it as i dont have a box for it and the side setup would require to do a fiberglass box. I have always been told the sub behind the rear seats facing towards the hatch was the best position for a hatchback just dont want to do this new setup and compramise the sound too much.

you can get a prefab box, just to try out different locations..
then once you've got the spot you want, work out the actual box you need to build..
