hi guys i'm new on here and was just after a little wisdom.

i've recently become sick of having every panel in my car flexing and vibrating under the pressure of my 2 alpine type r subs, and have been swinging towards a more SQ oriented system as an upgrade. i would however like an opinion on the amps i currently have, and whether i should keep them or not?

currently i'm running
2 x 06 alpine 12" type r woofers SWR 1242D
JL slash series 1000/1 monoblock
audison lrx 2.500

front stage and headunit are not really important as i'm changing them regardless.

SO! any suggestions for front stage and sub? im not penny pinching, but i dont want to sell a kidney for focal be no 7's either. looking at maybe 2 grand all up?

and do you have any opinions on sq as far as double din dvd head units go? i do realise it won't be as good as a true sq head unit but i'm willing to compromise a little here, as i kind of do want a double din deck haha.

any help would be much appreciated!

throw the amps away. they're rubbish.

in fact, I have a bin just near my place that looks like it's made for the purpose. Give them to me and I'll, uh....dispose of them for you! easy. tongue.gif

I would head down to one of the northfield shops with that budget in mind, or to car-tunez, depending on where you are. Have a chat to them, have a listen to their stuff, make some notes, then come back with your top 3 components and subs and we can discuss them all here. otherwise there's just too much choice.

check these guys out

you have some quality amps there dont go throwing them away in any hurry, unless of course you want to throw them in my direction tongue.gif

As for speakers and sub there are plenty of options with that sort if money. prob aim to spend most of it on your front stage.
the brands DLS, Boston, Hertz, Focal, ID, Oz AUdio, Dynaudio, Morel, Treo, Seas Lotus, etc spring to mind, although there are certainly plenty more brands to look into. As mentioned just go to your local specialist shop and have a listen

amps are fine.
I'd look at Morel or Dynaudio front stage, and similar sub, although your sub(s) should be fine although one 12" should be ample.

Sound deadening is essential (read the tutorials for this)

If you have a budget of $2000 my suggestion for the front would be Hertz Mille, I think they compare very well with other speakers in their price-range. They're just over a grand, which leaves you a suitable amount for a sub. Don't want to overspend on one and cheap-out on the other

Yes you do. The more on the front stage the better.

Your sub only plays 1 1/2 to 2 octaves....

keep the amps, they are excellent

here are some great options

sub: alpine type x or imagedynamics idmax 12 subs

splits: dynaudio, alpine type x pros, boston z6

speak for yourself.

the sub is still having an audible effect up to 120Hz (71Hz LP, 24dB/oct).

I recommend 2/3 on front stage and 1/3 on sub.

okay then, 2.5 octaves.

Far cry from the 10 that the front stage does though!!
