Audison LRX 4.1K, or 1.3k

OR

The amps given are nice, but may not be "enough" power for the subs, when you want to "crank it up"
RMA
The Audison amps quoted by philz are all 2 ohm stable running subs.

I wouldn't recommend that JL amp for SQ, nor the Rockford. The Audiosystem I don't know much about but from what I've heard they're ok.

also, you won't get much sub power from a 4 channel. Better to get a 2channel for the front and a monoblock for the sub.

thanks louie

who sells Audison and/or Audio System in Brisbane

FHRX have the price lists for most brands on his web site.
GSN03
the dd s4 is very nice sounding amp
muzzy66
On that budget, I'd be looking at:

* DLS Reference RA40: 4x75 - $849rrp
* Focal FP 4.75: 4x75 - $899rrp (old price, may have changed)
* Phass AP 4.65 - $1,099rrp (assuming they are still available)
* Vibe Blackbox III: 4x100 - $1,025rrp (assuming still available)
* Rainbow IPaul 4.300: 4x90 - (contact mobile fidelity for pricing, as I'm not 100% sure)

Also, have you considered a three channel? If you can wire the subs to present either a 4ohm or 2ohm load (which you should be able to do one or the other), you should be able to get decent output from the sub channel.

Something like:
* DLS Reference RA30: 2x70 + 1x265 @ 4ohm (or 1x365 @ 2ohm) - $899rrp

There are also some nice 5 channel amps out there (including from Focal and DLS) around that price point.

The S4 is an asymmetrical amp, rated at 2x100W and 2x200Wrms.

Typical applications include:

Fronts 2x200W, rears 2x100W
Tweets 2x100W, mids 2x200W
Mid/Tweet 2x100W, midbass 2x200W
Fronts 2x200W, sub 1x350W
Fronts 2x100W, sub 1x700W

It has on board 24dB/oct bandpass crossovers, variable from 50-5000Hz.

It's a true "high end" design, using high spec parts and construction.

As Geoff mentioned, his Polks sound much nicer with the S4 powering them than the Alpine amp it replaced.
