Full Version: cabin tuning frequency?

I have a sedan, and using my rear speaker holes (6x9) shape in the parcel tray to allow sub bass into the cabin of the car
Sub is a idmax10 in a sealed .9cuft box getting feed over 1200 w rms

I do get alot of bass when I want, however would it be worth my time making some ports for the 6x9 holes? say If I was to tune it to 33 or 35 hz etc.

As from my understanding this would act as a bandpass box?

has anyone done this in their sedan?

Im really just experimenting with different idea's here

the quick answer is yes it has been done, and yes it worked, but it is difficult to get it right. Group delay will likely be your worst enemy.

If I was you, I would get onto Northfield Drew and talk to him about using the IDMAX in such an arrangement.

Considering the boot has so many air leaks in it, I can see it working, but trying to achive a decent level of Sound Quality about it, im not so sure.

Im in nz yahoo.gif

so in theory it would be like building a Big Bandpass box for my car? if I was to go through with this, this would require me to rebuild a new sealed box?

also whats the best way or most accurate way of calculating the cabin size? would it be by working out the nearest rectangle and calculating the volume from that?
