Well guys I am thinking about getting some gear into my car which is a Holden vz. I am just after some splits and a amp.

My price range is around the $1000 mark for both I am willing to push it more if there is some thing a little higher in price but better sound.

I was considering between;

Boston sl60 and a eclipse xa4000

Or

Alpine spx-17pro and a pdx-2.150

Out of these 2 which would sound better. As I want to compete next season.

I have not heard ether as yet.

Which would you guys go for or what other products should I be looking at?

My head unit will be an alpine cda9887.if that helps in any way.

Thank you.

Both should perform fairly equally, it will come down to install, and tuning IMHO.

Something I've found in the past with Bostons is the lower end at times can struggle (my personal taste anyway).

Matched with the right sub (preferable a G5 smile.gif ) you can get a fantastic balance of decent SQ. From what I've listened to the Boston subs from the G2's onwards seemed to be matched quite well to thier respective component speaker lines.

If your not going to get a sub - I'd recommened the X's simply because the killer midbass will make up for the lack of low end.
However if you are going to get a smaller sub - try the Bostons with a 8' backing it up.

I just feel that compared to the X's - you may be gutted with the finished sound compartively if your not going to be running a sub.

sorry i have forgotten to add that there will be a sub.i am still not sure what it will be .but i will be looking at getting one some time next year before first round 1 in feb.

i am starting to lean towards the type x splits over the bostons.
but will the pdx 2-150 give the power that the type x needs? or should i be looking for another amp to power them?

It will give them enough power, but why not even got the eclipse with the type x? Use a 4 channel and possible go active or have the choice too, having said that the type x have a fairly sophisticated passive ehich is worth using though.

i will consider that idea of using the eclipse with the type x. i will be running passive to start because of my very limited understanding of active.but later down the track i might even change to active and give it ago.

thanks.
