G'day guys,

I've been looking around for a while and i'm trying to spec up a new system for my Peugeot 206 (05 model).

So far i've only figured out the following:
+ Headunit Alpine CDA-9887 http://www.alpine.com.au/products/product.asp?modelID=291
+ Speakers Hertz DSK 165

Not much i know, I just haven't had the time to make a trip to a car audio speciallist.

A couple of notes...
+ I know I can't integrate the LCD display and control stalk, either can't get the adapter or too expensive ($300+)
+ Everything is stock at the moment
+ Have had factory installed rear 6x9 in the parcel shelf, not sure what brand.
+ Not sure on budget at the moment but I'll try to figure it out. I don't want to spend too much but I would like something decent.
+ Not sure if I need an amp or not but I would be grateful for recommendations
+ Considering a subwoofer but I would prefer the boot space. I need to talk to a car audio specialist and see if there are any options to do a discrete install. Otherwise is there an option to utilise speakers for a bass replacement?
+ Anything else you might think i should consider...

Sorry to sound like such a noob but I would be grateful for any advice you could share...

For bass you could try the Qmax invisibass 6, it's a 6" sub in a custom ported box, small enough to fit under seats, and apparently is very good for its size and price (~$250-300). Otherwise I'm sure a specialist will be able to make a nice custom enclosure to maximise boot space, though it might get expensive (I actually don't know, but generally the more difficult it is the more the price goes up).

I'd probably look at an amp, 4 channel, power the fronts and bridge to power the sub. Something in the range of $4-600 will provide ample power for both front and sub.

Best option would be to work out how much you want to spend, what you want, and then post here and also head out to a few specialist stores (ie GL prosound, stylin, Phatt Audio - are a few that come to my non-Victorian mind) and see what they recommend and what they can do for you

Thanks for your advice Louie.

Thinking about my budget, I would only aim for (at the moment) an installation for a headunit and speakers (and maybe an amp if it's necessary) my budget for this would be about $1500 (inc. amp?).

I would probably look at getting a sub (or even the rear door speakers) installed later on. I'd also probably be getting my install done by Stylyn so i'd be interested in anyone who has got work done there before, esp. with a Peugeot.

Cheers!
Louie
An amp isn't necessary, it will make a huge difference in the sound though, so is definately worth it if you can work something out. Otherwise you should easily be able to get the 9887 good front speakers installed for the $1500 budget. I'd say if you put $500 towards install (including deadener too perhaps) you should be able to get them to run the cables for the amp install to save time later. Might be worth discussing with them what you want now and in the future, as it is simple for them to run all the cabling so that adding a sub and amp later is almost as simple as plug and play.

Though if you talk to them you might be able to get headunit, fronts and amp all installed for $1500, just make sure the amp is 4 channels and will be able to power the fronts and sub, but don't skimp on the fronts either, so if you will have to get 'lesser' fronts then put the amp off for a bit for sure.

Thanks again Louie.

With having a new amp, fronts and headunit, will it be okay considering I've got stock rear door speakers and 6x9 parcel shelf ones?

EDIT: thanks for the reminder. I would also like to include deadening into the car.

Im a french car fan, ( and former owner). I know how much fun they are to drive. having said that the 206 isn't the best car audio platform, but its definately improvable. good.gif

- Well several 206 owners I know have intergrated it, so it definately possible. Don't settle for $300, get better quotes. (im assuming $300 for the adaptor on its own?)
- If $300 includes a budget H/unit and you think thats too much, then you need to save more money. As 206's benefit greatly from a good head unit & lots of sound deadning.

- 206's don't have 6x9s in the back their an odd size. Leave them runing of the headh unit. Concentrate on you front speakers.

$200 to $400 on H/U
$400+ 4ch amp (seems like a lot but amps make a big difference and good for future use)
$250+ front splits.
$150-$200 in sound deadning - 206's are rattly little cars. (I know first hand)
$300-$400+ installation. A good install will make all the diference, even using factory equipment.
If money is tight, buy the best you can afford, one at a time.
Eg, the best headunit you can afford now... then save up.
Then the best amplifier you can, save up
then the best front splits you can, save up
then sub etc...
The other option is to consider 2nd hand. Theres bargains to be had.

- Its always a plus.

+ Considering a subwoofer but I would prefer the boot space. I need to talk to a car audio specialist and see if there are any options to do a discrete install. Otherwise is there an option to utilise speakers for a bass replacement?

- Buy a 4ch or 3ch amp now, upgrade to sub later.

Thanks for advice syd-monster.

Just a an update - I've rung around all the shops in Melb. but unfortunately there's no one who can fit an adaptor to retain control stalk (wheel) functionality. It's either they can't do it, or it's too expensive $300-450 (installed). I guess I have settle for without it then...

Oh and I'm happy to increase the budget from $1500. I'll need to hear the speakers in order to choose what I want but I was wondering what the difference is between amps? Like for example fosgate vs. alpine vs. kicker etc

Thats a little like asking, whats the difference between Holden, Ford, Honda etc.. their just brands, just like the names you listed.
Take your favourite CD to a car audio store and let your ears do the judging, forget fancy labels or brand names.
