At the end of the day, are you sure you are after pure sound quality?
I.e.
Do you want pure sonic accuracy and nothing else, or do you want something that goes loud and sounds pretty clear? I only ask because a lot of people say they want sound quality when really all they want is something that sounds good and goes loud.
Also, what type of money are you looking at spending? I know of speaker sets ranging from under $100 to about $15,000, so an overall budget always helps.
Finally, are you only about sound, or do you want show / looks as well? Some high end audio gear out there sounds absolutely brilliant, but lacks some of the flashy brightness that some like

Also, do you plan to compete in 'SQ' competition? This will determine also what level of equipment (and hence budget) you'll need. If it's for competition-level, then start at around $5k for a basic system.

simon, i completely disagree - a low budget, and sq are NOT mutually exclusive.
look at timmeh
anyhoo, you can build quite a good 'sq' system that will be competitive in comps, which will also go loud for $2000-$2500 including a professional installation
but if your budget is greater, that opens up ALOT more options

Don't forget that R32 Skylines are getting a little rattly and are noisy cars to begin with. They have plenty of engine, big tyre & road/wind noise, plus anything aftermarket only increases cabin noise. I should know, I had my hands on one for a while.
Cabin noise and panels that rattle means that more has to be spent on quietening the car up. R32's have plenty of surfaces that need sound deadning, as they didn't come with much from the factory.
R32 are really hardcore perfomance cars. Built with performance in mind

, which their bloody good at. Something to think about. Perhaps your better off thinking about what Muzzy66 said, it makes lots of sence to me. Although personally in an R32 I would just custom fit 6" 2ways in the doors & a decent head unit.

its really not worth going 5.1, especially if u want to enter sq comps (purely stereo with sub)
focal are nice, and i would recommend anything from the 165kp range up (mmmm, utopia's...do u have a spare $3k for front speakers, lol?)
headunit: $500
front speakers: $600-$1200
front amp: $500-$900
sub: $500-$900
sub amp: $700-$1200
installation: $1000+

Absoutely true, that you don't need huge cash for a great sounding system.
Source: Pioneer P80RS - $850
Tweeter: Vifa XT25 - $170/pair
Midrange: Peerless 7" HDS (Nomex)- $200/pair
Subwoofer: Peerless 10" XLS - $300
Amplifier: Focal FP 5.500 (4x75 + 1x300) - $950
Total: $2,500
Add about $500 for battery and simple cabling, and you have $3,000 plus installation.
Done right, this could easilly hold it's own agaisnst many far more expensive systems.
You don't need huge pockets for outstanding results - but this is a pure SQ system ... so the quesiton is, are you sure SQ is defiantely what you want?
Because if you like source units with pretty flashing animations, bright colourful speakers, and fancy chrome subs that pull 200db, then this setup WILL dissapoint you.

Another options:
Source: Alpine CDA9887 - $600
Splits: Focal 165K2P (passive) - $850
Sub: Peerless XXLS 10 - $300 (XXLS range can't be beaten for the price)
Amp: Audison SRx3 - $700
Total: $2,450
Similar price, different setup.
