Full Version: question re: Clarion HX-D2

I have my eyes on a Clarion HX-D2. I want this headunit because:

- preamp stage only
- copper chassis
- clean, simple design
- 0.5ms step time alignment
- good tuning functions
- full hardware 24 bit burr brown DAC

I've noticed a few people on this forum with them. Some questions:

- How do you find the SQ?
- Are they an absolute prick to tune or wat?

Cheers guys,

Iano

Very nice deck, does lack the user friendlyness of the Alpine and Pioneer because of its text only display... The menu system is still rather easy to navigate once you have learnt it.
It is a beautiful looking headunit that would look home in most cars.

To me, the only critism is:
there is some "cheapness" to the buttons on the face, feels like a $150 supercheap headunit
the remote is craptacular (you might be able to integrate it with steeringwheel controls now i dont know)

Tuning, is rather (VERY) technical and this is where the full graphical interface of the pioneer and alpine craps over it.

Yeah I've heard they arent very user friendly to tune.....but nuff about that. How does it sound??

To be honest, none of the current crop of headunits really excite me, except the HX-D2. I dont like Eclipse anymore due to quality issues, and none of Alpines headunits have hardware DACs (or do they?)
Pulse-R
they sound good
