I am looking at upgrading my front speakers to a set of Dynaudios, currently running a pair of Soundstream Van Goghs. I have heard these speakers in person many years ago and was very impressed. I have also heard they need alot of power to run to their potential. Anyone got any advice?

yes, they are very, very good, and remain competitive amongst speakers of similar cost.

they are not perfect; their weakness is the tweeters. but you'd have to spend another $500 to improve upon them i'd say.

whilst they can handle heaps of power, and require heaps to go as loud as possible, they are also fine of moderate amounts. i've run them from around 100WRMS per channel, and that was perfectly adequate for my needs.

your alpine MRV-T420 would be fine to start with. upgrade if/when you can.

I wouldn't limit yourself strictly to Dyns, especially if you heard them many years ago. Try and take the time to listen to a few different sets because you may just end up liking something else that little bit more.
