Does anyone know what the navigation system is in a 1999 5 Series BMW?

Next question is does anyone know if there is a cheap way to upgrade the mapping? smile.gif

i know this is an old thread but:

make sure you get the right disc if its a vdo system. they will have 2 types. a carin disc and a CIQ disc (Both are Whereis maps).

i am lead to believe that the bmw nav systems are carin but double check against the original disc.

the difference between the 2 discs?
CIQ uses a "key" which unlocks the maps when its inserted into the nav system
Carin does not.

for more info, PM me, and ill try and help smile.gif

burn yourself a copy of the latest mapping...

I burnt my uncle a copy for his X5, from my mum's X5, because we had a later version... worked fine.

(assuming the E39 5series has the same dvd based nav system used in the X5)
