Full Version: thoughts on round port positioning, or angled slot ports...

Hello all,

I've been designing myself a sub box, and thanks to the shallow boot in the exa (without removing the false floor) my baffle - where the sub mounts - will be on an angle and unable to have the slot port on a flat surface, which has got me thinking about round ports...

here are my options:
(2x 3" round, 16" long ports minimum)
* 2x 3" round 16" long ports on the baffle, facing into the boot
* 4x 3" round 8" long ports on the top surface
* 2x 3" round 16" long ports on the back surface (which is flat, but faces the rear seat, there is a fair bit of space between the bottom of the sub box and the seat, but none at the top)

I can't put them on the side as the box is the width of the boot..

alternatively (and preferably) I still use a slot port on the side of the box - I'm just worried about the face of the port being angled, is that going to affect it much?

Cheers,
any help is great!!

*edit* designing the box for a Boston Acoustics SGP555 - will be a 60L ported box

having an angle on the opening of your slot port wont affect it much. Just remember to measure the port length down the center of the port.

should I keep the back panel of the port on the same angle as the baffle? that could prove to be a bit tricky, but not impossible

No, there is no need to. You want to have the same port area the entire length of the port. if you dont, it can mess with the tuning.

awesome, thanks for the help biggrin.gif
