Not sure where to post as I am new to this forum..but this seemed good.

I recently crapped out my logitech speakers (the crapty ones for $150) including the sub and am no looking to buy new ones.
Right now im just running them off my comp with a cable that gives me audio left and right. I'm fairly new to this so I would like the system to hook straight up to that.

I was thinking these http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers...24&cl=au,en
As they are the best logitech give out. I dont want to spend anymore then 700 bucks on sound for my computer.
All I listen to is rap, so I really want a good loud sub...

Are these speakers any good? Or what else can I get for the same price or less?

Any help appreciated.

cheers
synical
mate, these are the cheese of all computer speakers. my brother owns a pair and damn, the sound is absolutely amazing!
other than that, i think the high end altec lansing speakers should be very good.
muzzy66
Ehh... MUST they be computer speakers?

$700 is a hell of a lot of money for a little sub, plus and five 3" midranges in plastic boxes.

It's not enough cash for a full on PROPER home theatre system, but you can get a pretty decent "home theatre in a box' for around that money.

For example, this one http://au.lge.com/products/model/detail/au...__ht762tz.jhtml actually sounds surprisingly decent, and better then any computer speakers I've heard. with negotiating at a common electrical store you should be able to get it for around the $800 mark. A tad above what you wanted to spend I know, but:

1) You get a DVD player and reciever with it
2) It looks quite sexy
3) It's more space efficient overall
4) It sounds better (it actually has silk dome tweets, rather then relying on a single 3" midrange to handle all frequencies).

If you were in NSW i could help you out with one, but sadly not sad.gif

Only downside I see is that they are floorstanders, which might not be suitable.

Orr just take my approach... I'm using the sub and satellites from my old Logitech Z-560s (old version of those ones you listed), and just replaced the main speakers with a pair of Wharfedale bookshelves smile.gif The sub still sucks (as its a computer sub) and the amp still sux (as its a computer amp) but it sure beats the hell out of the standard speakers that come with it.

Thanks for those responses synical and muzzy66.

The home theatre system looks pretty sweet, I think ill go check a few out, but I really dont want the dvd player as I will be paying for something I will never use. But that sounds the best option by far.

cheers for the input.

muzzy what would you reccommend in a dvd home theatre / mini type system that can still crank well enough for a party?

20Hurtz
price dependent these might be worth a look, very flexible http://www.ddproaudio.com/pro/index.htm
~Spyne~
i would also suggest looking at active monitors or small bookshelf speakers and amp
klipsch is an option as they do make some excellent computer speaker systems, and those logitech's u linked are supposed to be very good, but i agree with

those dd's look good, as do epos aktimates.
you could alternatively get some decent bookshelf speakers from, say, LSK (the LoudSpeakerKit group) and a dick smith/jaycar 2ch amplifier
hark
hey guys,

i've got an old version of those logitech speakers and they go hard for what they are. I don't know if a similarly priced mini home theater system would give the bass needed for a party. That LG set only has a 150Watt sub and who know if thats RMS; go the logitech for a PC. i used my set for a 21 party we had for a mate in a hall and you had to yell to hear each other, they weren't super clear, but they were dam loud. and dam bassy.

with computer speakers

my 2c is
for bass - go logitech
for SQ - go altec lansing

EDIT: u'll be able to get the logitech for like $400

Again, thanks for the replies, so much help.

Hark, thanks very much for that, I will probably go for that once I work through all the links.

cheers

Get the logitech Z-5500's. I bought some a month ago, and are still going strong, the sub is 188w RMS, and the system comes with an amp, with Dolby DTS n all that.

They have great bass and are very loud. I reccomend you go to MSY www.msy.com.au and check it out, they have them for $363 all new in box n stuff. They retail over $700, well the model under, the z-5450's are going for $698 at other retailers.

If budget isn't really an issue and your after some real quality sound, get these speakers. For the money they are well worth your buy. At the $360 mark your definetly getting GREAT value for money. Definetly make good house party speakers.

-Coaxial connection
-Optical connection
-Headphone input
-PC connections.. (6channel)
-Wall mountable speakers (they rotate from a benchtop position to a wall position)
-Sub has an automatic shut-off switch if it gets too hot (and it does get fairly hot, unfortunetly, but hasn't shut off for me yet)

Any other questions on them just ask away mate!

P.S. U can buy them for $363 brand new in box 12mth usual warrenty thing from msy now. (beats paying 700) The sub isn't as strong as I want it but hell, i use 2 subs for my home theatre so it's what your used to. The bass is plentiful tho.

EDIT: Like hark said, a mini home theatre sub wouldn't pump out much bass for that money. This z-5500 system has good bass for the price. Decent quality, i dont complain.

I own a set of the Z-5500 and to be honest they aren't that special. They have sat in my room for the past year not even setup silly.gif

They have potential to go loud depending on the source (mp3, CD, comp etc), and they sound ok.

Well i also have the z-5500, and i think they are very clear and loud.

The speakers really impressed me. The sub is also quite good but to tell you the truth i did expect a little more. (This may be because i am comparing it to a car sub i had hooked up to a car amp for my computer.)

But still, for only $363 from www.msy.com.au i would recommend them.

I have a older Logitech 5.1 setup, you know the one, it has a 5.25" subwoofer. For such a small system it cranks very well. I metered it with the Termlab and got 114dB on music at 50Hz in my study which is a fairly large room. Great bang for buck I say!

go to dicksmiths.

find the set of floor standers with two 7"midbass, a 3"midrange, and tweeter. 100 bucks for the pair.
find the 10" active subwoofer. about 110 bucks
find a 2 channel amp from there, about 200 bucks. thats what i run, and its plenty loud for parties, for music, for movies... its great
FatDamo
As trism stated, thats a very good way of doing it, the DSE 5.1 system i got quoted was less than 700, with an amp im pretty sure, and their DSE floorstanding speakers are very good for the money you pay.

I reccommend doing that if your not interested in the z-5500's
beastvs
Im using some altec Lansing speakers at the moment, They are worth about $500 but we got them thrown in with a our new monitor and a few other things. They sound great
mad89
Some of the DSE speakers arent that bad at all. Definitely worth a look and listen.

I know i wouldnt be spending $700 on the Logitech, thats for sure. tongue.gif
