Hey guys. Im looking for some sticky, very high performace tyres for my magna. Car is currently running on 20s, but, I need some good 16inch rubber for my up and coming track day.

Dry performance is more important than wet.

The wheels Tyre test put the Dunlop Sp Sport Max first, with some pretty impressive results, and they cost about $200 a corner.

So what else have you guys tried, and prices you got ?

Also have a look at the stuff thats used on high performance eurocars .... Pirelli PZero's .... Continental Contisport .... Michelin etc

Been looking at some of them aswell, althought, being european, they are automatically more expensive for the same performance.

For example, the Dunlop beat the Pirelli PZero in the wheels test (for 16s) while being $100 cheaper.

what about some semi slicks?
ar3nbe
Little bit to pricy. They fetch about 400+ a corner.

Although, i was considerin it for a little bit.

Well I would look at/get semi slicks if you are just gonna use them for track days only.

Because even the best normal road tyres won't be up to scratch, if you want to shave some times.

It one investment, buying a set of performance tyres, its another looking after the things.
I have a set of Micky Thomson Semi slick race tyres and after every meet they have to be deflated and stacked off the concrete out of the sun to keep them at there best, if your feeling really cheap for a set, go to the next V8 round, like the group C or a porshe cup race, they throw out about 8 tyres from each car after the runs, no good for another round of racing, but great for track tyres!

One of the reasons im after some street tyres, not semi slicks.

However, interesting what you say about the old race tyres. What size are they ? and more importantly, will they just give them away ?

I had Bridgestone S-02's on my previous car. They were really sticky till they let go, but still predictable. good for track work in the 200SX.
TEGBOY
I loved my P-Zero Nero's they are awesome. I currently have Falken Azenis, I really like them and they are cheap. I recommend them. I keep chewing them out however, due to neg camber sad.gif
Spl_dynamics
Iam with TEGBOY on the Azenis, but you will find they wont last forever.

Track tyres are easier to come across if you know a driver, but one of my mates hung out in the pits at Eastern Creek after a porshe cup round and scored 3 sets of half used tyres.

There wasnt enough tread left for another round so they just gave them away, he used one set and made a coffee out of another set.

Most race teams at the end of the day, give away damaged panels, tyres and anything they would normally throw out.

Its worth hanging out for the extra hour sometimes biggrin.gif

cheers

My GTS came standard with them, you dont get much milage out of them though..

offtopic: can you still buy S02s anywhere?

My fathers VZ club sport came with Pirelli P Zero's. He is more than happy with them and the car gets regular track time.

Look at www.tirerack.com for user reviews

I've used the Kumho KU-31 and found them great value.

Re55s or Dj01s (if their still about) were good in 16s. only 280 a corner for 205 too.

If you prefer low(er) road noise but plenty of grip look into Federals 595 / 595 RS. Cheap too. Low km is the catch.

So2s are still around gota look hard & date stamps are getting older, so3s are better in the wet imo. Ive not driven on Adrenilins yet but heard good things.

go the semis daily, just learn how to do a wheel alingment before & after each trackday
