Hey guys/girls i've been doing alot of reading regarding the alpine 9887 being such a great headunit and recommended by many in this forum and i thank everyone for the info givin in previous posts.

I have a very specific question regaurding the new iDA-X001 headunit and its comparrison to the 9887. I cant seem to find out which headunit would have better sound quality if there is a difference at all or is the only difference being the look of the headunit and a slight price difference??? Is there some sort of website that will give more accurate specifications than the alpine site or has anyone had any personal experiances which may be rellivent?

Any help will be greatful

Thanks guys/girls

the x001 has no tuning features
the 9887 has heaps of tuning features (time alignment, variable xovers, 5-band parametric eq, etc)

Hmm ok i didnt see that, i guess i might have just assumed it would have those features... thnx for that
~Spyne~
there's also the fact that the x001 does NOT play cd's natively - it is required to be connected to a cd-stacker in order to 'play' cd's

X001 is built for pod and enhances ipod and mp3 quality music. The 9887 is built for both. I recommend if your only ever going to use an ipod and dont want heaps of tunning options go the X001 as its the best ipod h/u out .If you use both ipod and cd mp3 disc's use the 9887 and you will be able to tune your system alot better .

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...de=&play=32

press click to play

check this link out explains all alpine head units and features and shows you in detail the 9887 and x001

hope this helps .

Id personally go for the 9887 as you can always use ipod with it to plus imprint technology and you can always use mp3 Cd's instead of playing around with ipod

Only because of the viewing screen. There has been many topics on here where this was discussed, and the 9887 has better speed and iPod navigation than the x001.

the 9887 is also $100AUD cheaper at RRP.

Yes i was at first confused and a little stunned to find out that the X001 wasnt all i thought it was cracked upto be. Alpine has been advertising the X001 on the AUS site alot saying how good it is and i guess thats how it caught my attention but it sure did pay off to do more research into it as ive had a play around with the 9887 but hadnt seen the X001 personally as yet.

Gotta admit though, that screen is pretty kool tongue.gif really makes the 9887's screen look puney and out of date with the graphics

True, but the navigation on the 9887 is adequate and as most SQ heads will confirm, you listen with your ears not your eyes! smile.gif

if i wanted to see a picture of the album cover, i'd just bring the cd and look at it, and use the cd.

oh wait, you cant use cd's in it.. mny bad tongue.gif

Hey guys just hijacking this thread.....

has anyone got/had any probs with the cda 9887 ??? i got this unit based on everyones thumbs up and it being real good for SQ but alas....

my issue:

going from 0 (--)volume to 1 you get a slight beep from right channels and all inputs track changes +/- and the amount of hiss from all channels is really noticeable....

am i being fussy or is it a issue.........??? as the alpine tech said "is this guy a musician?" - - - yes i am! :|

the noise is definately coming from the deck.....
has already been sent to alpine - nothing found but i don't think they would have done a true test just woulda checked the scope on the outputs......

have been tearing my hair out for weeks now...... got the alpine rep coming in tomorrow to have a listen.

have tried new unit same issue..... and evan the one in the store does it....

bad batch maybe??????

the hiss is very noticeable - everyone with 9887's can you try and have a listen in a quiet zone....... small beep from -- to 1 on volume and every number up from there but obviously you can't hear it as the music gets louder also cd track changes / ipod / fm etc basicly everything to do with tracks back and forward.... + the hiss is really quite present its annoying!!!

cheers for any help/thoughts/ or test out your own.

note it does it on active or passive setup......

cheers,

Matt
