I'm going to mod my car dvd player to play dvd's while the car is in motion. This is in order to keep the kids happy (quiet) in the back seat without spending $$$ on a rear video screen.
Will I get a yellow sticker If I'm pulled over because of it? (I'm in Perth)

not really an spl question....
its only illegal if the driver can watch it.
so headrest screens are legal, but a dvd headunit isnt

I don't know if you would get a yellow sticker but it certainly isn't legal.
If you have movies playing while in motion it is concidered a distaction to the
driver.

Yeah it will be in the centre of the dash so I the driver will be able to see it, I won't be looking at it though. A fine I can handle, but if it's yellow sticker material I might think twice about doing it.

Be wary about doing it as it will void your insurance if you are in an accident and they find that it is able to be watched while driving. They wont even care if you were watching it at the time only that you "could have been".
I have had a couple of customers that had bypassed the handbrake. Both were in an accident with another car that was not their fault ( according to them! ) The insurance companys found out that the screens could be viewed whilst driving and declined cover so they were stuck with the repair bill on their cars as well as on the other vehicles.

Very interesting!
If I do go ahead with it, I'll make damn sure that I install the bypass box in a way that it can be removed easily without a trace.
I'm starting to think that an investment in a rear screen would be wise.

i think the idea is: "dont do it".
You can buy replacement headrests already with screens built in or the variety that straps to your existing headrests.. I'de be doing that and making sure the front screen is wired up to the handbrake relay so it cant "accidentally" be activated whilst driving.
My old install in the wrx had a screen/dvd wire so that you could view it while driving and i'll tell you something.... It IS definately a distraction!

Option Audio & Neltronics. (maybe more, but can't remember

)
http://www.optionaudio.com.au/http://www.neltronics.com.au/They are a multi fit product, generally available in Black, Grey and Cream iirc.
Although you should be able to order them with different colours & material albeit at an additional cost.

Neltronics screens are much much better than Option Audio.
And they work.
