Hi
I got a set of Lights to replace my current headlights and i have found that they are 100watt not 65watt as stated my questions to you are
1. will this still be ok to install into the Headlights?
2. is there a fix to drop the wattage so to speak incase of heat for the headlights? do i need to take to to a Automotive electrician to get this done?
Any help would be great
Cheers
Troy
Modern day headlight components are made from polycarbonate's that are designed to withstand the heat and UV generated by the factory fitted globes of a certain wattage.
Increasing this wattage will generate more heat which could discolor (as already suggested) and also melt these polycarbonate components.
Also larger wattage globes will draw more current than what was originally designed for the wiring loom potentially creating an overheating situation that in extreme cases could lead to shorts and fire.
Also you cannot "lower the wattage" of the globes as such, it doesn't work that way.
Your best alternative would be to fit +Plus series globes that actually put out more light at the same wattage.
Most lighting manufacturers have +Plus type globes, normally +Plus 30 and +plus 50, which theoretically put out 30% and 50% more light with no extra heat or UV radiation.
Try and swap those 100 watt globes for something like these from Philips -
