Hai everyone,
Im pretty new to the forum, and i would like to know how to set up a 3 way system. At the moment I have
HU: Clarion db566usb
Amp: Claron apox 4240
Sub: Treo 10 inch the entry level
Fron splits: AVI tweeter, and panasonic 4 inch midrange
(this splits its not actually a prepackaged splits, but i trust the guys in metrosound to do me a el cheapo and decent splits wannabe)
Rear: standard
Now im running the amp for front and subs only since thats is the output of the HU. Now im thinking its lacking midbass, and my question is it is possible to do 3 way with my existing system (since its only been installed for a few weeks), like adding a midbass. Please any advice or comments are welcome (btw my car is starlet life 97)
Thank you

not without more amplifiers (maybe get a new amp for the sub). if your existing amp has a crossover that you can set to about 300Hz or lower, then you can run the midbass off the old sub channels (in stereo not bridged) and use the in-built crossover.

otherwise, not without spending a lot of money.

Personally, I would just buy a nice set of splits, say some DynAudio's, Morel's, Focal's, etc. Just a nice 2-way setup, and run them off the passive xover.

It will sound much better than a half ar$ed cheap 3-way set up.

Also, if you get a nice quality set-up now, chances are it will well and truly last into the life of your next car, so you save money in the long run.

The AVI tweets are a good start, the panasonic mid I know nothing about, but for midbass if your after something cheaper I'd be looking at something like the Seas L18RNX or Peerless SLS 6.5" both of these are drivers with excellant $'s to performance ratio's as to whether your amps and HU are able to run an active 3 way set I'm not sure, at a guess I'd say no. But read some more, learn some more and soon you'll figure out what you need.

I wouldn't agree with that at all, consider the fact that you can purchase drivers with similar or better performance then what is supplied in a lot of pre packaged sets for alot cheaper and if you know what your doing can acheive much better performance. Take for instance the Vifa TG9 which is a 3.5" fullrange driver which you can buy a pair for about $100, these drivers are actually one of the most popular drivers midrange drivers in the european SQ comp cars outside of team/sponsored cars. Give yourself a a budget of $500 for drivers and you can set yourself up a pretty serious 3way front end, you just need the amplification and tuning to run it all. There are very few highly competitive SQ cars OS that run pre packaged sets, most use a combination of car audio and DIY or Pro audio drivers.

So is a pre packaged set easier yeah sure, will it give you the best performance for your dollars 8 out of 10 times no, if you know what your doing that is, if you don't or arent confident then yeah stick to the pre packaged stuff since it's the safer bet.

I am interested in 3 way to. I have a pair of 2 way 4" speakers. Is it better value to, keeping in mind I have a 2x60w amp and a 4x160w that can be 2x380, buy a decent set of splits and sound deaden the doors, or to buy a dedicated midbass?

Thanx a lot for your comments and responses guys. Ok judgin the speakers with my ears now, I would say the AVI tweeter and treo subs is the best out of my system. The panasonic speaker even tought is a cheapo speaker, but i must say im impressed, and so do the owner of metrosound. Atm my brother want to give type-x alpine splits (5 1/4 in), but when i spoke witht he guys at metrosound they would think its better if i get an avi 6 in midbass, because im thinking to use the 5 1/4 in speaker as a midbass.
Also I would get a 2 ch orion amp (not sure which one though).
Ok my question now is should i take the alpine or just follow avi all d way (since i used avi, XL type,in d past its nice). If i got a second set of amp for the sub should i play active or passive on 3 way (my HU only have front and rear RCA sad.gif )
Many thanx

i run semi active 3way at the moment and its nice buy the gear is only half way...they must be install properly etc

semi active for me is tweeter/midrange of xover and midbass of the amp @ 100hz lp

I'm not sure how much experience you've had with Car Audio Dani, but it would be probably better to go AVI if you can get them. It is often (not always, but often) easier to match drivers of the same manufacturer, than mix and match - especially if you're relatively new to Car Audio. Having said that, if you're going active, then you have the advantage of being able to set up your crossover points manually, instead of having them fixed as in a passive system. This means having all the same brand is not so much of a necessity.
