Guys over the last week we have been getting our emails blocked turns out one of our PCs is SPAMMING

But which one (or ones) ?

We use norton 360 at work - have done since before I got here. And I have made sure they are all upto date and did manual "through" scans on all the machines - this came up with a few things but nothing major and im still having the problem.

I dont have a fancy router (like im used to) which I can log into and see where the traffic is comming from so what do I do?

Probably need a bit more information Kirk.

What email client are your PC's using?
I'm guessing you are using email accounts from an ISP or web based mail (Hotmail, Yahoo) rather than a corporate mail system.
Is your ISP blocking the emails .... can they trace back to the originating IP address of the offending PC?
What sort of spamming .... viagra adds or crap like that?

Could be a spoof, meaning its not actually coming from your network.

Turns out it was a spare machine we'd forgotten about in the office we dont use was left on - its anti virus software was out dated by nearly 12 months and as such had 54 Viruses according to Avira. So cleaned that up and switched it off ran a scan on all the other PCs on the network using Avira and came up with nothing on any of the other PCs submitted a request to be delisted from the black list and all seems to be good an well now.

Hay guys Ill give you my tips to beat Spam (and Spamming)

How to not recieve Spam

1)Dont Ever EVER open spam. itll probably open some photos which go back to a specific Link that say WOW someone opened me its a real Email address! Awesome sauce

2)If u always seem to open Spam just make sure u select the option that doesnt DL Photos Automatically

3)Always run spyware/virus Scanners Regularly (like once a week)

How to not send spam (the give aways for this are Ure ISP calling u going BITCH STOP SENDING SPAM)

4)Run virus/ spyware scanners Regularly,

5)If you keep continueing to send spam. try a website like www.pandasecurity.com and run a Online scan these websites are so Fugging handy

6)If you have one computer that just keeps spamming. Do something very Simple. Block port 25. Sure you wont be able to send emails from SMTP (outlook Eudora etc) but no more spam issues!

I work for an ISP and Bout once a week it used to be my job to call customers up and tell them they were spamming.

Luckily I Have gotten a Promotion and no longer have to do the most boring job in the world :-P

Any Questions?

Erm furry muff!

If your povo and need a free decent scan, or lets say your AV missed something. Use this Trend Micro online scanner called house call. It doesnt install any software so theres nothing to be worried about here! It works a treat. Use the Java version. I suggest all of you give it a try, just for piece of mind & so you know theres always something free and reliable to use when theres internet access & no software handy.

I'm happy with the AV software we are now using. The main issue here was that there was a PC left on for about 12 months with its antivirus software subscription out of date with outlook express left open - yep big no no!
The email account that was linked to that PC has since been shut down and the computer completely cleared with antivirus antispam and antispyware programs.
Any the Computer has been switched off and is setup now that it turns it self off at tease.gifm at night if someone usees it during the day and forgets to shut it down.

We dont send mail via the ISPs SMTP we use the webhost - its more reliable - though slightly slower than the ISP.
Most of the big files are done over FTP any way so the speed really isnt an issue especially now that im using NetDrive which allows me to access my web space like a network drive - OH YEAH!
