Look nice, except for those stupid fly wires, there is absolutely no advantage to having them it's just DD sticking to something they use on there subs, whether it works on there subs is debatable, any advantage they try to claim using it on a mid is purely marketing gimmeck, same goes for the ones on the tweeter, but thats me I like my drivers to have plain spade terminals when not talking about subs.

http://www.audio-system.de/english/index.html Click on the HX line on the left and go half way down the page, look familiar, same designer, same factory, and probably sound very similar, do the currency conversion and pricing is very close too.

Less connections / connectors is a good thing. A factory silver-soldered joint is far better than a 5c spade connect imo.

The first thing you have to do when installing a mid is solder wire on, we've already done it for you. smile.gif

I get what your saying about the connections, but you've lost me on the audio systems hx speakers? WTF are you talking about?

And the first thing probably 99% of the car audio community is going to do is either crimp or solder a spade on the end of the fly wire. IMO the fly wires are more of a hindrince then a help. It cheapens the look of the driver IMO because it looks like rubbish wire (I'm not saying it is), and personally it just looks like cost saving I'm sure 15cm of wire is probably cheaper then some of the nice solid spade's connections or lockdown style you see on some quality drivers.

But anyway that's enough OT!!

So when will we get to hear these in a car at a comp?

Luke

There basically identical, and for a good reason!!! Same guy designed them, you can see they use the exact same parts to build up the drivers and xover's, and to tell the truth I wouldn't be surprised if these were very very similar spec wise.

p.s. I just cross checked the specs there remarkably close, close enough to just be a difference in the measuring equipment used, the only main difference is the the DD look like they've be made to handle a tad bit more power with a subsequent lowering in sensitivity about 4db down on the AudioSystem version (not a good thing) but again that could just be the measuring equipment.

The Audio System has a five leg basket, ours has four. Our tweeter looks much deeper because of the chamber, I'd hardly say identical.......

I'm putting them in our X5 in the morning. smile.gif

Awesome. Any chance the X5 will be attending some CAASQ/MEASQ events this year? Or any other shows to gie us all a look and listen?
Pulse-R
The HX has different crossover, so not likely the same.

The DD's look quite nice, get some wire n00b and do it already.

I was refering to the Woofer more then anything.

Even if the basket's are different the very similar specs show that the mid drivers are almost identical performance and most likely sound wise.

Hmmm suprized MR PHILIP DE GROOT didn't mention this but DD uses the highest quality 10 and 8 guage stinger wiring, which is alot dearer and better quality then most terminals. . . . plus it looks coool tongue.gif

This is what I want to know aswell.
Darkness_GR
Unless you mount you speakers right next to your crossover or amp i don't see any real benifit to the wires as you would still have to make another connection to the wire anyway. but if they were to be mounted next to the crossover or amp i could see the small improvement they would give. though would probably not be noticeable to the ear.

my visual opinion is that it looks a bit cheap, but every speaker has to get a wire attached eventually so i guess it makes no difference.

also what happens when the wire gets to short to make a connection?

Cheers, Grant

I don't know their position on demo vehicles. We were a major sponsor of CAASQ last year, but as they've done away with sponsors. I'll have to ask.

If not just give us a call or see us at any Autobarn / Car Tunez event.

Some other high quality speaker brands from Europe have the same wire connections as these tweeters. I have a set in my car that use this method and they cost more than the DD's. In my opinion it is easier and creates a much better join when you strip twist soldier and heat shrink your speaker cable to these.

We'd be happy to exhibit at events.

We're not sure that the X5 conforms to the competition rules. We will take a look. smile.gif
