Howdy all,
Just a quick run down of my system before we get goin...so you have some background
Deck: Pioneer DEH-8650mp
Splits: Hertz MLK3
Amps-splits: Audison lrx2.9 for the midbass and an lrx4.1K for the mids and tweets
Subs: 2xIDMAX12s
Amps-subs: 2 audison lrx1.1K, one per sub
Now my question is this. I know pioneer decks aren't the best, and mine was just a remnant from my previous setup, but how much audible difference would I notice if I upgraded my deck to say something like an alpine CDA-9887? I know they got all sorts off appealing goodies that means I could do pretty much anything I want with it, but I'm only interested in how much difference it would make in terms of the sound quality of my system.
Thanks in advance
Daniel

probably not much if you did just a straight swap.
but with the gear you've got your headunit doesn't do it justice.
I would upgrade to the alpine and add in the alpine PXA-H701 processor and go 3 way active front stage + subs. you've got the amps already set up for it. With a bit of tuning the difference will amaze you.

i normally go by the saying "rubbish-in rubbish-out" thats not to say that the pioneer is rubbish. like stealth said if you were going to just swap them out i don't think there would be a huge difference but if you add in the PXA-H701 and tuned your system really well it would run quite nice i believe. you could also just add the H701 to your current unit but then you would have to get the RUX-C701 to tune the H701 so it would probabbly be cheaper to change the whole lot over.

What makes you think Pioneer isnt quality? I have a Pioneer, and I reckon you'll be hard pressed to find someone with a better quality unit, realistically.
Also, from what I can remember, the 8650 is actually a good deck. It should have just as many tuning tools as the 9887, easily.

I know pioneer decks aren't the best...
Well except for some of the hi-end Carrozzeria stuff, which might actually be "the best"...

can the 8650MP do active processing?
if you want a deck to have processing features that you dont have then by all means.
otherwise theres no point in upgrading
an 8650mp is a very good head unit already.
i sold my pioneer 6850mp and ordered a apine 9887 so i could run active splits.

About 3-5%.
When you start down this path, the law of diminishing returns takes over.
The money spent on a headunit would be best put to more soundeadning. Reinstalling the front speakers & having a pro tune it.... thats my 2c.
