i used adelaide because darwin didn't have one but my internet provider is based in adelaide so it seemed like the logical choice?

wasnt expecting it to be that fast, seeing as the fastest download I've seen so far is 50kb/s

hmm.

its meant to be ADSL2, but its rather far from the exchange, and up in the hills, plus, I'm connected via a wireless network.

hmm.

Your download speed will always be slower than your line speed.

The difference is because your ISP's line speed is measured in Kilo Bits per second (Kbps) where as the rate of data download is measured in Kilo Bytes per second (KBps)

There are 8 bits to 1 Byte .... 8 Kilo Bits (Kb) = 1 Kilo Byte (KB)

This article helps explain the difference smile.gif

yes, but even so, 3400kilobits/s is still 425KiloBytes/s, and the most I've seen is 50kB/s silly.gif

ok, today its downloading at 200KB/s, nice smile.gif haha

Do you have to put your ISP in yourself? Or does it detect? That looks like an American ISP, not a Melbourne one.

Hmmm... ISP seems a long way from Melbourne!
Gordo!

Oh yeah! Im faster than Stone tongue.gif

haha. 512 plan ATM aswell. Looking to upgrade soon though.
Stone
512 is fast enough for me... Browsing is fine, downloads are fine... If they bring prices down, i'd upgrade, but at $70 for 512kb/30GB limit, i'm not spending anymore.

[edit] Just contacted Internode... Changing to 1500kb/25GB next month, wish I could get ADSL2+ though sad.gif

I thought most communications run 10 bits = 1 byte due to overheads, etc. not to mention the packet overheads....

edit: I can't spell

1 Byte equals 8 bits

This may help to clarify smile.gif
