Hiya gurus,

I'm looking at a carputer system using an old laptop connected to a touchscreen. What miffs me atm is whether to use a motorised single-din (plus keep my current headunit) or a fixed double-din? I'm trying to weigh up how a single-din will survive being knocked around off-road as I intend to run a GPS (Oziexplorer) as well. I had thought about fabbing up a big bull-dog clip thing to hold the screen once it's out. The clip will be attached above the din slots and I'll clip it onto the screen when it extends out. That way it'll hold it in place, hopefully, but will look really dicky.

Would a single-din survive? Don't they use plastic gears?

Either that or I'll buy a double-din which then has to have music playing capability - CD and radio etc. How good are they for playing music?

How much of a target are the double-dins to thieves? That's another major concern against double-dins. Are there may reports of doulbe-dins being stolenmore then single-dins?
