hello,

After some advice!
First off I am wondering about getting a kenwood KAC-1023. Its an older model amp (not sure how old) 2 channel, 600 watts per channel, ~1200 watts bridged (this is max power, 600 watts rms bridged at 4 ohm). What feedback can you give me on this? Does it put out what it says, it wont blow up on me (like my boss amp tongue.gif ) Kenwood is a fairly well respected brand isnt it, so I Shouldn't have any problems. Also would it be suitable to drive a sub.

SPECS:
2 channel amplifier.
300watts RMS and 600watts max while in 2 channel @ 4 ohms.
When run MONO it puts out 600 watts RMS and 1200 watts max. Parallel (speaker cable run + to + ) bridge to mono provides 2 ohms and series ( speaker cable run + to - ) bridge to mono provides 4 ohms.

I believe it is 2 ohm capable aswell, and when running an amp in 2 ohm mode you get more power correct? Is it possible to run my sub in 2 ohm mode while bridging the amp?
I think its a matter of how its wired to change the ohm (a link explaining the ohm would be great! smile.gif ). If it runs 4 ohm off one a channel does bridging it make it 2 ohm?

Thanks for any imput!
Nathan

Bridging the amp at 2 ohm makes it "see" the speaker as 1 ohm per channel - the ohms are shared.

so your answer would be no.

the amps will drive each channel separately at 2 ohms, or bridged at 4 ohms (2 ohms per channel)

lol i had one of these amps it use to draw so much power!!! but i did have a dual 4ohm voice coil running off it, it never got to hot as i had it mounted inside the box behind the sub so the air movement use to keep it cool, yeah i know sounds dodgey but it worked

Another question about a Cadence 3001 Mono Block Amplifier. It features are:
4 OHM Power, 300 Watts x 1 RMS, 600 Watts x 1 Peak
2 OHM Power, 500 watts x 1 RMS, 1000 watts x 1 Peak
If I hook up one sub to it, it will run at 2 OHM, correct? So it will get 500 watts of power? If I hook two subs in series this will cause it to run at 4OHM and ouput 300 watts?
Also do you have any feedback on the Brand Cadence? This brand is sold in JB Hifi so i guess it has to be alrite.
Thanks guys!

correct about the power.

cadence is "OK" but not exceptional.

So it should put out the power it says, but not the best quality?
Thanks,

The cadence amp will put out the required power, not much more than what its rated at though. What subs are you running? because 300 rms for 2 subs at 4ohm isnt a lot of power really.

Im only running one sub, so it will put out 500wrms? Its a 15" Boss sub 1400 watts max, so probably 500wrms if that...
Do you think this would go alright?
Thanks,
Nathan

Also Iv'e got 8 guage wiring, would this be enough to take the power that is going to be put through it?
Thanks,

if you use a sub that provides a 2 ohm load then yes you would get 500 into it(in theory).

I work at JB and no, just cause we sell it doesnt make it good. Cadence isnt bad so should do rated power but Jl have a 500 watt amp that costs a LOT more. why ??? if 500 is 500 why would you pay more ??? bottom line is JL is a conservative rating that it will do it all day, every day, and into harder loads. cadence isnt crap but its no JL

don't rush in...there are specs and specs..get the full picture before you decide that 500 = 500
