The car is a 1997 VS Series 2 S-pack 5spd manual, engine is out of a VY, which has been stroked to 4.2L. Here's a rough example of what's been done to it:

- Stroked to 4.2L
-aftermarket ultra light flywheel
- Bored & polished head
- C.O.M.E Racing manifold
- composite manifold insulator
- increased compression ratio
- aftermarket "Crow" cam +
- Aftermarket chip tuned to max safe power on Premium 8000
- Oversized bored out + polished throttle body
- Bosch hi flow long body injectors
- bosch twin knock sensors
- bosch hi flow fuel pump
- Bosch hi flow fuel filter
- FIT rockers and tips
- FIT 81°C cooler thermo.
- MSD spark leads & NGK Iridium spark plugs
- SS intake + 2x K&N podfilters on 4" custom Y piece stainless steel pipe. (one located on left side bumper, other heatshielded in engine bay)
-heavy duty clutch & pressure plate
- Pedders shocks and suspension.
- exhaust system made to suit perfect back pressure:pacemaker extractors -> 2.7"->lukey hi flow cat->2.7">lukey hi flow muffler-> tip
- it has a GETRAG GM5 5 speed short-shifted Borg Warner T56 6spd strengthened manual gearbox.
- VY SS LSD modded diff

There are probably more things done to it that I have no clue about. Dude at the performance shop reckons it should be easily pushing out around the 200kw mark. Beating S15's, Skylines and even a manual XR6 turbo and a VY SS 5.7L, to me is sorta believable. Just wanna see what you guys reckon it does with those mods before I dyno it in a few weeks.

Cheers guys. smile.gif

edit: added a few mods I missed to mention!!

Nice family you got there mate. Is that you at the front?
I'd love to get introduced to your family and all but I don't think it's too relevant with this thread. tongue.gif On a side note, please refrain from posting rubbish in here wink.gif Cheers.

No? Anyone else with an opinion? smile.gif
mad_bison
i have an opinion...but not a good one lol

RoVer™
Na it's all good. How much you reckon. smile.gif
mad_bison
the vy engine originally was a 3.8L which was about 153kw at the fly.
so 140 (if you're lucky) at the rears

with the work you've done... the only things that will really change output are..

bore/stroking, exhaust system, the aftermarket chip, and the change in compression ratio.

i think you'll be lucky to see 180 at the rears, more lucky about 160-170

but then again i'm not a v6/v8 boy...

4cyl turbos and oldschool flat 4's are my domain.
RoVer™
While I was at the mechanic getting LSD done, he reckons the car has forged pistons for sure. Didn't bother to ask him but I thought that was part of a stroker kit? (correct me if I'm wrong tongue.gif )

I wouldn't consider myself as a V8 boy cos I've never actually liked nor owned one. I've always preferred 4cyl Turbo's or small displacement 6 turbo (RB25DET, RB26DET, 2JZ etc.)

I had A 1996 prelude vtec Turbo which pushed 180.4 kW & 142 nM of torque atw @ 8280 RPM tongue.gif (this prelude was a f*ken animal like you wouldn't believe and I still miss it, but I lost my job when I had debts to pay to off. sad.gif)
And a Calibra Turbo which pushed about 145 KW @ the wheels.

Alas, P plate restrictions kicked in Victoria, so I sold my Calibra but never gave up on power, and the naturally aspirated VS sleeper is sorta growing on me. tongue.gif (while i'm on my P's anyway)

200kw at the wheels in a manual gen 3 is around 270-280 fwkw. Your engine stock is 153fwkw.. how on earth could it have gained 110+ kw (fw or rw) without chemical or mechanical supercharging (nos or boost)
My guestimate would be along the lines of 150-170 (as a happy figure)

Feel free to dyno it and prove us wrong biggrin.gif
mad_bison
yeh i've got a 4cyl mx6 turbo engine in my 626 wagon.

liquid gas injection 108octane baby tongue.gif

blown 3 gearboxes in the past 6months

before the liquid gas..so normal 91ron unleaded
at 8psi i get 125kw at the fronts, 330nm
14psi i get 135kws at the fronts, 375nm
18psi is 150kw at the fronts, 422nm <- why my gearbox blew twice tongue.gif

Having forged pistons implies nothing other than that .... the pistons are forged and tougher than cast ones smile.gif

How do you know it's stroked?
Did you have a stroker kit fitted yourself or do you have receipts from the previous owner that it has been stroked?

I bought the car of a local friend mechanic, which was going to be his project car with twin turbo. He sold it to me as is, I put on the wheels,
suspension, exhaust, CAI, HD clutch and ignition. The car has pretty much been stroked, as I stick around and was sorta keeping track of
what was happening to it before he sold it/i bought it. I don't really know how much it makes atw, however the torque is VERY unforgving and is kinda dangerous in the wet for a non-suited driver. it's got a similar attitude to the prelude which was just off its head, and the prelude would have the VS for breakfast tongue.gif but the VS definately has much more bottom-end power. about a week ago I ran a XR8 ute and managed to munch him from 0 to about 120 and was losing a fair bit of traction in 1st and 2nd in the dry with 18"s and about 95% tread.. unsure.gif for whoever's interested to see it smile.gif I'll bring it to a comp one day hopefully to see what others think about it, till now I'm still blown away at the torque it delivers. biggrin.gif

Just be careful about admitting this kind of stuff on a public forum as with the dob-in-a-hoon hotline you never know when you might recieve a letter in the mail.
I hear Autotechnique (Walkinshaw Performance) is holding a dyno day in a couple of weeks. I know for sure i'll be there providing mines back on the road by then. Bring it along and give us V8 boys a bit of a run for our money, prove you dont need the extra 2 cylinders tongue.gif

Too true. I have thought of it though wink.gif (No really useful I.D of me on here.) Plus it was done on a backroad in Werribee with no one around.

The Ecotec V6 was never really designed to make huge amounts of power. In stock form they are not anything special ( I own one). As stock you should be able to keep up with things like stock R32 Skylines and S13 Silvia's. They can make decent power with the right mods, But are in no means a fast car. With your listed mods i would be guessing around the 150rwkw-160rwkw mark, Give or take a few KW's.
RoVer™
So I've had a bit of trouble in the past while, and got hit & run by a 1 tonner while the car was parked about 5 weeks ago. RAC-V paid for repairs. smile.gif And gearbox failed about 3 weeks ago, (which I was expecting.)

While I was at it, I now have a fibreglass: bonnet, 2 front guards and bumper.

As we speak, the car is getting the BW T56 6 spd put in (MM6 I think it was), with strengthened internals. I will also be needing a new diff, as the current one is apparently on it's last legs. Any suggestions?

the car was making 173rwkw and 419nm of torque, guestimate is 175-180rwkw after the 6spd box and diff. Dynosheet when i had the 5spd box will be uploaded as soon as I find a driver for my old skool scanner.

Cheers.

smile.gif
Just like music
Lol... you guys that is no stock VS... it's a fully worked manual.

The FIT rockers give like 10kw alone as is with other mods, not to include the larger displacement, and it's all about compression!!! Those things chop mate, and you will wax a stock VS 5L with those mods fo sho.

I seen the 3.8's converted to 4.2L's and they chop. There are a couple turbo'd versions around the country and go pretty hard. Google!!!
RoVer™
Cheers mate, yeah it can out-do a stock 5L now.
RoVer™
Got the car back at 4 with the new gearbox, went and dynoed it right after. power was increased bit more than expected, and accelerates much better.

Next is a better diff!
edit: pic added. Thanks for looking. smile.gif
KIRBO
You've got to be happy with 247 RWH! Quite a smooth power curve too. Nice work. smile.gif
RoVer™
Cheers for the kind words. smile.gif I'm very happy with it, and plenty of power for until I get off my P's in 2 years time. After that, I may be looking into a turbo-kit. Like always though, we'll see what happens. smile.gif

Thomas1
Have you run it down the 1/4 yet? Dyno figures aren't a true indication of power....not meaning that in a nasty way lol. But dyno figures can be manipulated to give higher readings, whereas the 1/4 tells the real story.

Nice car you've got by the way. The 6 speed will be awesome!

RoVer™
Thanks mate. good.gif
Yeah I get what you mean, it's only intended as a power cruiser though. wink.gif As much as I'd like to I haven't yet, and won't for a while until I get a beefier rear end drive-train structure. Hopefully in a couple of weeks time though. smile.gif
broadz
Just out of curiousity, what was the intake temp and ambient temps as listed on the dyno sheet smile.gif

^What he said. And what was the BP?

what gear and tyre pressures too

If thats exactly what the graph says its fairly decent numbers.

Dont spose you could show a clearer full version of the dyno graph could you tongue.gif

Hadn't been driving the car cos the diff was busted, got a VY SS LSD diff (that was apparently slightly modded.) Runs great, and loves the 6th gear on the freeway. replaced knock sensors, injectors it had were off a supercharged 6, got some bosch "long body" injectors as a replacement.
Car is getting a major service done. (clocked over to 100,000 last week). smile.gif

I'm having fuel problems, i'm only getting 250-300km to the 60L tank on premium 8000. Was speaking to the dude who built the engine, from what I understood, he reckons I need a fuel pressure regulator along with some other things including a retune, cos of the new injectors. The stock ECU is smart enough to calculate the air/fuel mixture, however the aftermarket ECU in it now doesn't do that for tuning flexibility. It's basically running too rich, for some reason. Will get that sorted out in a few weeks.
RoVer™
Just spoke to the mechanic, I want 200rwkw. Reckons its achievable with not too much cost now. biggrin.gif 200rwkw out of an N/A V6 dirol.gif... hope it'll succeed smile.gif

needs vtec, yo tongue.gif

nah, well done man, looks like the joke is on the kerrigan's!

all this talk and still no pics sad.gif

don't go limp on us!

p.s. also a clearer dyno graph tongue.gif
RoVer™
For sure yeah, once it comes back from the mech. bushes were gone, just looking into getting the polyprolene bushes, and VS GTS brakes.
Bad news: Mechanic was test driving it after changing the brakes, and got pulled over. He wasn't speeding, but the car got canaried for:
- too loud
- too low

Quite pissed off, his hooking me up though, cos it's partially his fault. mad.gif
RoVer™
Got offered a mad price, the mechanic I bought it off is spewing and wants it back to set up for a TT project. I'm thinking about it, so far it's a sort of no.
broadz
PICS first, before parting with it! tongue.gif
RoVer™
Yeah, the car still isn't in my possession.
