G'day, i own a VN calais and looking to replace the front speakers, the speakers are in the dash, and i'd rather not hack-up my doors to fit new ones, i think the stocko ones in teh dash are 4 inch, i want to know if it would be worth putting pioneer 4 inchs in their place, would it be much better sound or??... im also looking at runnig 2 subs off 1 amp, and mayb either 6x9s off a 2 channel amp.. and if it isnt worth putting new 4 inchs in the front, ill jst hav 2 hav onli 6x9s as the only speakers other than the subs.

any help would be appreciated. thanks

after-market speakers always sound better, for sure. Even coax's too. I had a pair of alpine type S 4" coax in my first car's dash ($80 worth) and it covered everything for 300hz up pretty darn good. Having that frequency range coming primarily from way behind you SUCKS. If you want to put speakers in the parcel shelf, make some boxes underneath to q correct them for punchy midbass (and maybe opt for 6.5's over 6X9's, but it's up to you, 6X9's are only really for people who don't have subs), amp everything up (try a ~$300-$400 4 channel of sorts for speakers, and a mono for your subs). Also you'll need to lowpass your back speakers somehow.

It's not gonna be uber sq but it's better than having all of your mids and highs coming from the back.

oh rite... if i put 4 inchs in the front n 6.5's in the back, will a 4 channel amp b 2 powerful for the 4 inchs, should they jst be hooked up to the H/U.. im looking at running the two subs off of the Pioneer GM-D8400M - (Class D Mono Amplifier with 1,200W Max output).. it's posible to run 2 subs off a mono right?? and if so, will this be to much for 1 amp, will it over heat n cut out?

instead of 6.5 inchs in the back, would the pioneer - TS-A2003i - (20cm 3-Way Speaker with 400W Max power handling) be better???? cheers

3 way co-ax is usually nothing more than a pain ol' lie. Most are just 2-way with an extra piece of plastic to help further ruin the midbass response. I highly recommend getting two way 6.5's for the rear. With most after-market 4 inch splits, an amp should not do any damage to them. In fact, since crossovers will eat a ton of power anyway, amping them up is almost NECESSARY. Might want to come up with a way to reduce the bass going to them though, even if you do end up running them off the head deck.

Yes you can run 2 subs off a mono amp. If the mono runs best at 2 ohms, you'll need

2 X DVC subs @ 2ohms per coil or
2 X SVC subs @ 4ohms

If the mono runs best at 4 ohms, you'll need

2 X DVC subs @ 4ohms per coil or
2 X SVC subs @ 2ohms

And on a side note: You SERIOUSLY need to get some high power rated speakers and more than 50W per channel to keep up with that amount of subbass power, or you're just gonna end up with another boom machine. I assume that's not what you're after, or you shouldn't have posted in the sq subforum.

With a smaller set up like 4's and 6's and perhaps subs it is a very good idea to high-pass your 4's so that they will handle what you expect from them without causing mechanical or eletrical failure. I am currently running a set of stock fours high-passed in combination with a poly tweeter {passive} and have had an incrediable level of success. True the midbass kick is not there but the stage and image is remarkable.
I would lose the idea of tweeters in the rear and focus on getting some reasonable mib-bass from the 6.5 drivers. Add a little sub-bass and you will have a nice sounding system.

Cheers
