Depending on where in Melbourne you are .... there's plenty of retailers ....

Personally I have found that good and cheap really dont go together when it comes to stereo installs. I've learnt the hard way who to use and who not to use. I'm not going to name names, but you are better off to save a little more cash and get a slightly more expensive better quality install done

Whats your budget?
What do you have to install?
What are your DIY skills?
Where in Melbourne are you?
What are you wanting from your install?

Give us more info like Komodo said and we might be able to suggest a few options to reduce the cost such as running wiring yourself or buying a prefab box (if it suits your sub and space).

Generally speaking, cheap and good don't go together when talking installs. It all depends on what you need done and what your expectations of "good" are - cheap and good are possible for a simple/basic install.

erm.. im staying box hill.. i just plan to run on headunit and subwoofer 1st.. and my DIY skill sux.. haha.. i just want a proper install.. and i will tune it myself.. yeah.. thats why need a cheap and good shop can do for me.. anyway im from malaysia.. and i dont know the market installation price in melbourne here.. so hope masters here can give me some advices.. =)

Surely in the last 2 months you could have saved up a little more for a decent installation? tongue.gif

Seriously though, if you can run power wiring etc yourself you could potentially save a bit of cash, eg, you'd effectively just be paying for the HU install and for them to connect the wires.
Does your budget include wiring and connections or do you have all that already?

erm.. i dont know anything about installation.. hehe.. yeah.. my budget hope to get everything done by shop.. what is the rough price here in the market?

installation cost depends on what u want installed.

and how much custom work is involved.

if a sub box needs to be made. or an amp rack. or speaker baffles in teh doors.

-then of course u have ur simpler items.
how many speakers? and where?
-does ur car take a standard single din HU? or will it require modifications to the dash?
-will you have an amp? or amps? and where do you want them installed? thrown under the front seats? screwed onto the back of a sub box?
-will u use a generic sub box or have one built to suit the shape of the car/specs of the sub?

i suggest shopping around. go in. explain what u want done and ask for a quote... cheap normally doesnt mean good. tho there are exceptions.

Correct. My contribution was going to be; 'good' and 'cheap' dont go in the same sentence when talking about installs.

Save up a bit so you can pay that little bit extra to get a better job.

A couple of other things to remember:
"Do it once, do it right"
"You get what you pay for"

Good luck with it. wink.gif

you can put them in the same sentence. its just the good to cheap ratio varies. frankly i believe a good quality install is better value as it will sound better and last longer. than a "cheap" install.

4 cheaps to 5 goods... make sure its at least "this" big as well. and 1 better than ur mates.

Ok I'm sick of listening to the stocks in MY02 Liberty, I would like to have my 4 x focals and amp installed, if I have to pay more for a better job then I will but I've been out of car audio loop for a while so where can I go? I live near Greensborough/Bundoora. I wasn't too happy with GL Pro Sounds work on my last car, there is a place in Grimshaw St aswell but I refuse to take my car there considering the boss used to work at Gary's in Preston (dodgy prick). I don't mind travelling to the other side of the city within reason.
