Not the best pic sorry ... but finally put 22" on the Pathfinder.
I'm a fan of black wheels, especially when the tint is now booked in for 5% which I reckon will match the wheels.

Nice rims!
Need to lower it about 1m and then some. Also colour coded mirrors would suit, but perhaps they'd match the wheels once theyre closer to them.

I had actually planned to color code the mirror's and door handles, but then now they actually suit because of the black. Once the windows are darker and the graphics are on, it will all tie in more I think. Already have smoked altezza's and clear side indicators to go on.
Would love to have lowered it, but unfortunately this 4x4 still has some duties where ground clearance is required (boat towing / launching etc.) so will have to live with the ride height. That picture is deceiving because of the angle the wheel and car are on, it actually sits pretty flat and looks OK.

Is there brakes in there? Think its time for some BIG BRAKES!
Marc
May 7 2008, 01:13 PM
LOL yeah you can barely see the front disc ....

But on the back you can see a dirty old big drum ... time to paint that black to make it dissapear I think.
If it were a performance car of any sort, I'd probably consider some sort of brake upgrade. But any upgrade would merely be cosmetic and a waste of money IMO.

5% Tint? Be prepared for yellow sticks/no insurance coverage incase you crash.
Anyway, really like the rims!

Not the best camera angle Marc .... makes it look like you've got 10 deg of positive camber

What's the tyre profile ... 30 series?

Not bad dude. Still recon you've got room to take it down about 3" without causing many problems. Still wont be low, but will look better

Can't believe those things have drums on the back end!
Heck even the 'trol has discs on all 4 paws unless you get the leaf tray in which case it needs the drums for the uprated GVM.
Im with VL Commy though a few inches out would look heaps better and you'd still have herds of clearance. might need to mod the radius arm slightly though otherwise you'll chew bushes

I've just spoken with a contact at King Springs. Apparently there are no lowered springs for an R50 due to suspension geometry & travel limitations, as the coil will fall out at full suspension droop.
The only option I have is to have my original springs reset, which would give a maximum drop of 30-35mm only. Only $180 to have this done, but I question whether 30mm is worth it?

tie the springs in

Nah there's practicality involved with this car, and these sort of mods defeat its purpose.

I've got a Lotus in the garage that sits less than 80mm off the ground ... that does the job for handling and performance.
This has to lug gear around, tow boats, go camping etc. Just being practical

Pfft tracks I go camping down low profile treads like that would be slashed to pieces in 2 minutes flat - slam it!
If your willing to take those tyres down there then you dont need the clearance.

Thats about the only track ive got a pic of and thats actually not a track its a main road out aberfieldy way. Tracks like that take no prisoners they just kill tyres - i must have been on drugs that trip though looks like I havent even dropped the tyre pressures in that photo.
Marc speak to someone to see if they can make some new radius arms up for you. What about offset bushes? and suspension cones to tie in the spings?
That about over in the states they have the armada which to my understanding is a similar platform to the pathfinder / xtrail.

gotta laugh @ that pic - theres not much of those crappy alloy side steps left any more. That photo was taken the day after I picked up the car later that day I sat it on the sills on a whoop-dee-do up one of the trails that was still open mashed up the aluminium foil side steps nice and quick. Reminds me I must get some tube sliders made up when the work shop is quiet next...

It's not 4x4'ing I need to do ... it's the ground clearance I need for some of the things I do. I don't chase 4x4 tracks or go off roading.
Some of the ramps we go to and launch / retrieve boats from (freshwater rivers), require the clearance, but don't necessarily require a 4x4 or muddies if you get what I am saying.
Slamming it would defeat the purpose of having the 4x4 in the first place.

looks really nice marc.
Instead of colour coding now that you have the black wheels, you could have the mirrors painted in a black.
Just a subtle difference.....

cosmetically, i'd just leave it. it has a '4WD look'...but that's cos it's a 4WD! if you had that air-gap (between tyre and wheel arch) on a sedan, you'd be shot for not lowering it.
put the $180 towards colour-coding the mirrors...NOW!
