Hey guys,
Had an idea on my way to work this morning... I have no idea who to talk to so i thought i would post it up here... Alot of people go to and enter autobarn comps that we never see anywhere else... We now have a happy hacker class (Street Stock A and B) this is a class very well suited to their customers amp under 1000w is 99% customers that get a sub and amp combo from most of the major chains...
Why don't we encourage these guys to run these classes so as firstly these guys can be more competitive also shows that these guys can enter autosalon for example and not have to spend 2000k on an amp inorder to have a shot...
I had a ball at Express window tinting the other nite and the impression i got was that the other street stock competitors did too...
It's just my 2c worth let me know what you guys think....

I think the main limiting factor is the cost to enter official events

This is just my idea and i could be wrong, but this is how i felt... Because i have a single 15 at an autobarn comp i'm in street b.. up against team manual shed.. (great guys) there pulling 147 now... with my current setup with some termlab time and some help from brad and george with a new box i might get to 145 if i'm lucky... what really kicked me along was having a class where i could be really competitive without having to spend mega bucks on gear...
I don't have an issue spending the money on entry fees if i know i have a shot at the prize at the end of the rope...
45 bucks isn't alot of money if you know your not just making up the numbers to be smashed in qualifing.. if you know that if your gear holds up then you could be there fighting it out in the finals...
This is just my take on it all of this... i drive for 45mins everyday and i don't have bass at the mo so i have more time to think lol...

now that we do have the as you put it street hacker classes more cars will start to go to sanctioned events. it takes time for people to work it out thats all.
at the last dorans we had some 4 cars enter that arent regular dbdrag competitors that took out wins and places in their classes.
with them to return in future for other events.
it just takes time to get the word out and guys will come to the official ones now that we have the street stock classes.
but also not to forget street stock will be watched once you start to get reasonable numbers say 145's then you will then be asked to move to the street classes.
and if street stock becomes as hard to win as street it could just end up the same as it was.
but yeah it just takes time for word to spread about the new classes and numbers will increase. ultimately $40 is bugger all for a good day out. you can spend more going to the pub or most other activities. and you get a good day of hanging with friends chatting and stuff friendly rivalry, chance to learn new things. in the scheme of things its a small price to pay event if you dont win.
but what i dont think you realise, is that there are so many of us that do drum up new competitors and do try drag new competitors to comps. its just the attitudes of a few competitors at different events that scare others off, i have found in the past.
In NSW these types of competitors have now since left the sport and our numbers of entrants are slowly climbing but you always get the idiots that scare others off from the sport. thats all.
plus also watch if numbers ever do climb enough it weont be a case of 1st and 2nd places at events you will see 3rd 4th ect. all it needs is numbers to climb.
at a lot of local comps over seas they give awards down to 8th if the numbers are enough to do so.
but yeah we do have a bit to go but entrant numbers is the first thing that needs to climb before the sport really takes of here in australia.
we all have known this for along time and as said there is a fair few off us that do try boost numbers. and even by trying to get more sanctioned events running and even un sanctioned ones so that your everyday guy can come see what its like and maybe get bitten by the SPL bug.
sorry to rant on i will stop now. as everyone already knows how passionate i am about dbdrag otherwise i wouldnt be where i am now but yeah i will shut it now
cheers billy

Even if 1st and 2nd get a trophy and the other competitors in said class get a certificate stating what their score was, the official DB Drag logo on it etc, something they can look at and say - Hey, thats cool, but next time i want that trophy.
give them something to take home for their time and efforts in coming out with us and getting into the sport rather then spending their $45 on alcohol or gambling or what ever else they could spend it on.

I agree, we need not only to encourage others to come and enter but to come back...

what its worth, if we want to encourage these people to attend more events why don't we at Autobarn sound offs and all other unsanctioned events go there ourselves and if possible hand out leaflets about Sanctioned Dbdrag events, let them know when they are on next how much it costs where it is and stuff. Let them know about them cause most of the guys that walk into those stores aren't aware of these events or where they are held.
Maybe we should let them know that they can do really well at the events too.

It seems that people are not understanding the need or purpose of Street Stock. These classes are being designed so that more Manufacturers, Dealer and new competitors will be encouraged and welcomed to participate in dB Drag.
I have seen many people complain that they carry lines that may or may not be members of dB Drag. Well, I believe that once this ball gets rolling, they just might want to get on board. No manufacturer gets a free pass in these classes. You must be a member of dB Drag, put dB Drag on your product boxes, actively educate and encourage your brick and mortar shops to hold events, and encourage their customers to come to those events.
It is really a big circle. dB Drag and the current member base want to see the organization grow and have more support and more members. This increased participation and support will only happen through encouragement. Wayne is proposing a set of classes that will allow for Retailers to sell their customer a pair of 1000watt subs and a 2000watt amplifier (EX), install it, and have them come to a show and be competitive. If done correctly, the shop owner can make money hosting this event as well as advertise their shop and the products they carry. Through this increased interest, the shop owner will want to sell more of brand A because they are seeing people be competitive and market the product they carry in a class designed for this exact purpose.
The Manufacture of brand A is happy to see the increased sales by this shop and begin seeing the rewards of supporting dB Drag. This manufacturer may choose to send raffle items, posters, t shirts etc to the shops that carry their products and participate in hosting these events.
If a certain manufacturer isn't participating in this structure, they can be encourged by shop owners, sponsored competitors that are members of dB Drag and even by seeing the positive rewards for supporting this structure as the season moves forward.
Nothing against internet sales or internet based companies, but what are they doing to help dB Drag? Maybe Wayne can work with some internet based companies if they are willing to support this structure etc? But, the purpose is to increase participation of the new competitors (customers for the brick and mortar shops), retailers and manufacterers.
Over the years you have seen Kenwood, Alpine, Rockford and many other companies walk away from dB Drag because there was nothing beneficial for them or their dealers. By introducing this structure and making these companies aware of the intentions of these classes, they may be encouraged to come back and begin supporting dB Drag, competitors and events once more.

Its not just more sanctioned events, its getting them at more places. In order for a shop to be able to hold sanctioned events, they have to pay membership. alot of places dont like the idea of this when they can run their own, and all they do is take the entry fee,. and profit

You know i might be way off here, but i think its not just prices or getting the word out, its also the format of the competition. By that, i mean the average bloke on the street probably wont waste his time coming out for the day just to play 3 seconds of a song or sine wave. Formats like bassrace and bass boxing, where you play music against one another, would be more popular with these kind of guys. Loud music, attention, and showing off would attract them, just a few seconds would'nt hold much appeal.
Of course you'd get a few tools in commo's, but they'd make up more numbers all the same.

The new street stock classes are 30 seconds of music, as for the high entry fee most young drivers spend that on a Friday and/or Saturday night cruising the streets looking for something to do or somewhere to meet up with their mates and usually play music that loud that they annoy every local from here to Alice Springs, DB Drag racing gives them this, a place to hang with their mates, somewhere they can show off their car and play their sound system as loud as possible and at the end off it they could win a trophy or certificate to prove how loud their system really is.

I must say i'm with george on this one... I heard the other day there was a story on today tonite that they were closing the broadwater carpark up here to crusing on a fri n sat nite coz of the hoons.... if we do this right we can encorage some of the boom boys and girls to come and play with us... this has a 2 fold effect, not only rasing the profile of the sport in australia but by having more competitiors we also will get more comps thus getting us closer to every orginisers goal of getting more multi point events in oz... mabey some of us have to do a bit of legwork hitting some of these spots and getting the word out pump up some of the egos and let them know they can win a trophy for being loud not just winning a peice of yellow paper from the boys in blue...

. When you do a DB drag are you able to get a print out or something to say you got "140 DB" etc. I don't no much about these events but they sound like fun none the less just need more of them
