hey
anyone know of a good TOSLINK to RCA adapter.
I have a TOSLINK output that I want to feed into my 9833...
but the 9833 only has RCA input (through the use of an alpine AiNET adapter) that I know of.
Thanks.
The only reason for using the TOSLINK is reduced 'noise' (if there's even an audible difference).. otherwise I'll use stereo 3.5mm to dual RCA outputs instead.
PS> Yes, its coming out of an NF7 "soundstorm" onboard soundcard.

You'd need an (expensive) external Digital to Analogue convertor.
Toslink (or co-axial digital) outs are a data stream, not an analogue audio signal.

yeah, you're trying to send a digital (toslink fibreoptic) signal to an analogue input. no can do without the DAC.
just use the analogue 3.5mm stereo output.

.
Oh well... RCA it is.

Thats why they are called a digital to analouge convertors. Its not an adaptor. You can get an adaptor that converts signal from toslink to RCA buts still a digital signal and so wont be suitable to plug into your Alpine. It still needsto go into a DAC

don't jaycar sell them?? they couldn't be THAT expensive.. I mean, you can buy a computer motherboard with digital output for under $100... *shrugs*
edit: $90, is that expensive??
also converts composite video into S-Video...
catalog number: AC-1612
although, I do recall that they had something cheaper... might not sell it anymore..

sorry my bad!.. yeah converter :? .. u know what i mean..

.
Id be curious to see the SQ diff. between the "soundstorm" onboard sound and an Audigy2 (which is all i can afford).

Skinny> gonna use an Abit NF7-M ... which is pretty small.
was hoping for the mainboard from a shuttle SN41G2 XPC. they are even smaller have dual VGA output, runs about 150W and full Dolby 5.1 (which I dont care about) but has the soundstorm SPU which is a pretty good one. yeah it has 3.5mm stereo output as well as TOSLINK... but was gonna try keep a clean signal if possible... but it probably aint worth it.

You can pickup second hand dual 16bit or more car audio dacs for around $150. DACs are prety hard to destroy so nearly all second hand car audio ones will be in good working order.

Skinny> yeah but you get what u pay for.... no point having expensive SQ gear if the source signal is rubbish.

Nakamichi DAC41 (20 bit digital to analog convertor) $150 AU + delivery via me (subject to availability)
You can read Winno's opinions on the DAC here:

I have a DA20E and NAK DAC111 20 bits DAC for sell. both DAC won't accept optic so you will have add an adaptor to convert optic to to coax before you put the signal to DAC. this can be brought cheaply from jaycar.
