The 135i is a great car for the price and is way better looking than the 130i. It uses the same engine as the 335i but as it is smaller and lighter it is faster to 100 doing it in 5.3s compared to the 335i at 5.5s. In the fifth gear head to head battle of this car and the Porsche Cayman it came out on top. It still isn't the best looking car but for 70k you can't really get anything that has this kind of performance and luxury, especially from a European brand.

Yeah, a bit tasty.
Next car will either be one of them or a

S3.

the specs and philosophy behind it are awesome. performance equally great, no doubt.
yet, i'm still not a bimmer fan. i would prefer an audi too, but they still lack soul and charisma of an alfa! i'm definitely not saying an alfa is a better performance car - it's not, by a long way. but it feels special on the road, which a bimmer/audi cannot do for me!
but, i can understand why someone would by the 135i. i just don't want to meet one at the traffic lights.

Is it just me or is that a foul colour for that car? reminds me of THAT pink that was on Hyundai's in the 90's.
Unsure about the looks, but the 135 should be a stupidly fun car to drive at least!

I don't mind the color, but I think it would look a lot sleeker in the grey / charcoal color of the Z3/4's ?

or silver, which will tone down the hideous bangle flame work.

mind you, in the flesh, i'm sure it looks great. but i too am partial to shades of silver/black.

The colour kind of looks like Holden/Toyota Phoenix Red. Doesn't look terrible, but is not the most flattering. I still think there are way too many lines in BMW styling these days. It's as if they don't care how the cars look, apart from showing off how they can bend, cast and mould metal and polymers.
This one does seem like a good package, though. Any less ugly on the inside?

I'd get an Alfa but I have this weird desire to have a car that works
Nah, was pretty close to buying an 147 GTA instead of the S3, but I test drove 2 and both had electric faults on the test drive.

May 28 2008, 10:44 PM
147GTA is a great car. somewhat frenetic; balsy hothatch. electical faults are uncommon, so the car may have been a lemon or not well looked-after. price would reflect it. if it's a late-model Monza version, then it may still be under warranty.
alfa's can certainly be unreliable, but ONLY if not serviced as required. nothing special required here, but some people neglect it. when serviced, they have excellent reliability. especially the V6 models.
S3 is boring as bat-sh!t to drive. sorry.

refined, 'works', just doesn't feel special.

1-series would take similar time to a toyota, but if you want special features/customisation, it takes longer before they can get around to building it. so they take the order, add it to the queue, then it gets built, then it takes a month to literally 'ship over', and sits on the docks for a few weeks, then it arrives at your dealership.

if you don't want to wait, you say 'i'll take that one', and point at the one on the showroom floor.

enjoy the car when it arrives.

did your family actually get the coupe? or is it a hatch?

Soft top convertible coupe of course! =D
And we have one of the 08 X5's (very nice car, usless 4X4)
But hey, i'd rather my 94 vitara over the folks cars =D

Yeah, I just had 2 seperate bad experiences with them. The first was an electrical fault (weird dash problems) the second (seperate car) was a complete shut down on the test drive requiring a tow truck. Just didn't go. Was all set to buy one as well.
The S3 is pretty clinical. But it's a work car. Has the image I need with some decent performance to go with it, plus the added traction in wet weather is good as I'm driving out around Oberon and Orange through frost/black ice pretty often now. I'm in the process of finding the right e30 325i sedan to turn into something a bit more exciting. Or maybe I'll end up with a 205 GTi.

And you'd prefer a Vitara to BMW?

Do you think about what you're writing before you post or just throw it out there?

I prefer a car that you can actually drive, the beemers are practicly say where to go and it goes there without feeling like a car ( I base this assumption on our/famiys X5, 315i, 750Li, Z3).
With my vitara i can actually feel the road and have some controll over where the car goes =D..
But in the same sense, hey i'f anyone were to give me a beemer, I'd drive it XD

There's a difference between feeling a car lurch into terminal plough understeer and nearly tip over and having a feel for what a cars steering is doing. It appears you have this a bit mixed up.

you mentioned yourself that [you] "can't rush perfection"....
but you prefer the vitara... meaning in your eyes the vitara is perfect, or you prefer inferior cars?
bm's have awesome handling (driven x5, e46 320, e90 330i, z3 2.8litre) definitely better
feel for the road than other cars.
BillK
Jun 5 2008, 06:54 PM
No, no no no no , use don't understand!
The Bm's handle GREAT!
But, you loose the feeling that your actually driving a car.
To some people this makes no sense, but to other people (who prefer 'old schoolness') they prefer something that you can actually have the knowledge whats going on without gidchets and gadgets.
Can i get an Amen?

ok i'm following you now.. bit ambigious before though.
sounds like you want a car without power steering lol.
BillK
Jun 5 2008, 11:35 PM
Oh, i have power steering =D.
But yeah, i'll explain it this way.
We have a 93 ford falcon ute with colum shift and all the dodgy extras (this is because we have a farm) and it feels like a peice of sheeze (bad!), BUT, it feels like a work ute.
Then the other day on the other half of my family, the old man just bought a 05 rodeo duel cab to work at our new block (english = work ute) and everyone who's been in it has said it just doesnt cut it for them to be a work ute.
It may be newer and better, but the old one feels like a real work ute..
If you get my drift?
=D
