I know quite a few people run these subs here...

Just wanting to find out what type, sealed/ported etc and size of enclosure people have these in for there setup's

mines going into a Sedan

also i will be putting 900w rms into the sub, do people recommend getting a passive radiator for the G5? or is a waste of time?

and lastly, there is 2 fuses 7.5a each, will these be a problem is im running up to 900w rms into the sub?

I have 2 g5s in seperate boxes both sealed with sub installed there about 32 litres each a bit bigger than boston recommends 28.3 litres in a sedan they sound great rolleyes.gif .
I have 900 wrms going to both so each sees 450 wrms they love it i had gains all the way with no problems but backed it off a bit so amp dosent clip .
I have no experience with passive radiator so cant comment . unsure.gif
Shouldnt have any problem with the fuses on g5 if you set the gains properly on amp . rolleyes.gif

aparently with the radiator, you need to install it on the same face as the sub for the best effect. mine is on the back side of a leaky box, and doesnt seem to do much for me.

however, the new sub enclosure I'm building will be a bit larger than 1 cube, so I'll tell you how I get on.

Ask Sierra. he knows stuff about the G5 too

I might pass onthe radiator idea, I just thought I could waste some more money before I start my install biggrin.gif

waste money on buying my speakers instead!!!
s4turn
lol!

yeah they are tempting, as my z6 mids are pretty shot... one of the mids is missing a lug :|

I just cant afford to buy them atm sad.gif

I use a single 12" Dual VC G5 in a sealed enclosure of 35 liters (1.25 cuft)

I've not heard a G5 with a passive radiator so can't really comment on the bass output from that combination.
The amount of bass that a single G5 can put out is huge .... more than enough for most people unless you are a total bass head laugh.gif

You don't mention if you have a single VC or dual VC G5.
Bear in mind the G5 is rated at 450 WRMS (perhaps conservatively) but remember to use a bit of discression when setting the gains on an amp that has double the sub's rated input.
The fuses will provide some protection from transient overloads but not from long term excessive power.

For my setup I run 2 monoblocks each rated at 320 WRMS and each connected to one of the voice coils.
The gains are set fairly low .... and the bass output is pretty damn good wink.gif

I ran a G5 in a sealed ~33L box (just over 1 cu/ft), off about ~300wrms and didnt really like it. It was good, but not spectacular.

Swapped it over to a 2 cu/ft box, which is ~57L, and it sounded much better, still off ~300wrms. I then stepped it upto using an Alpine MRD-M1005 monoblock, with 1000wrms, and thats when it really shines, for both SQ and raw output.

Im midway through building a slightly smaller box for it, about ~1.75 cu/ft, which is ~49L. Im hoping this will be about ideal for it.

I think whilst it can work in boxes as small as 1 cu/ft (or 28.3L), it sounds much better in slightly larger boxes.

This of course, is just my opinion. smile.gif

I used to run my 2 x G51244's consuming ~1KRMS each. They were housed in very small sealed enclosures ~21L (Originally built for ALpine 1222D - type Rs) and sounded awesome. Since then I have now thrown them in custom ported box that my next door neighbour was throwing out 7 years ago. I have no idea what the specs are (sorry) but my point is to say that they sound even better now! I love tight bass; but hearing a deep bellowing bassline wasnt all that possible when in the previous sealed application. Currently set @ 20Hz-63Hz 24db/x they blend in great with my Dyn 8" midbasses. On the same power, 1KRMS each they burp 142.8 on Termlab thrown into an unknown custom box in a volvo sedan. biggrin.gif

wow thanks for the replies!

I might try and go for a 1.5 cu ft sealed box, Im not sure if can make it much bigger
i cant wait to hear the g5...
