Is the 165KR2 going to replace the K2P and if so has anyone one been able to listen to them side by side (the the KR2 at all)? Should I get a set of K2P while they are still around

Thanks for your input

T-Dog
On the focal website it says that it is the successor to the K2P so it should be replacing them. I have only heard the K2P. The KR2 are pretty new so not many people have had a chance to listen to them. The specs of the two are almost the same so it would come down to which you prefer the sound of. A lot of people say that the tweeter on the K2P is to bright but when i listened to them i found them bright but not overbearing. The new TNK tweeter on the KR set are not meant to be as bright as the TN52 but as i said i have not heard them so i can't really comment on this.
cletusb
Anyone know who has them both set up in Melb?
Juls
The KR2 does not replace the K2P.

Don't let anyone fool you with that, the 165KRX2 replaces the K2p,
but it's not out till ALOT later this year.

the KR2 has the TNK Tweeter, with the standard K2P midbass (2 ohm version I believe),
the TNK Tweeter is a kevlar version of the recent new Polyglass tweeter TNB. it is NOT a replacement for the TN52.

the 165KRX2 has a new Midbass, based around the BE Basket, and a new TN53K Tweeter.
as I said though, it's not out yet, and only prototype information is available.

The K2p is a very solid set of speakers, in the right hands can be a real weapon.
(in the wrong hands it can be horrific though)

I have no images of the new KRX2, but the new KRX3 I found some prototype images. which you can see the new TN53K. And the new 6.5 Midbass specific driver and the 3" midrange based around the Utopia BE basket. I don't know what the new KRX2 midbass will look like, but I'd hazzard it will look similar to the K2P Midbass with a new basket.

So which is the set to go for the K2P or the KR2? unknw.gif

From FHRX:
"165KR2 (which replace the 165K2P) are the strongest K2 Power series speakers Focal have ever made and the new tweeters came in for extra attention. The result is a totally new ground up TNK tweeter design which is smooth and clear but free of the harsh edge associated with some of the older Focal tweeters such as the TN47."
Jm3
The K2P's are rated at 20wrms more than the KR2's. Is this noticable?
Pulse-R
not likely, because it's 2 ohm, must be less wire on the former = lower inductance = better woofer (usually).

It's unlikely that the new speakers will be worse - most likely they will be better.

As I already said, the TNK does not replace the TN52, neither does the 165KR2 replace the 165K2P, regardless of what they say, the TNK and 165KR2 are a "additional" speakers to the line, the 165KRX2 will replace the 165K2P. the 165KR2 kitset will be a lower end speaker to the 165KRX2,

the 165KR2 is a new 2 ohm mid range K series speaker designed to run with the new low cost Focal amplifiers they have just released.

as far as I can see the TNK is designed to replace the tweeters on the 165KF Speaker sets that previously had TN47 NOT TN52.

You'll notice that FHRX only say it's better than the TN47.. it says nothing about the TN52. Clearly TNK tweeter does not obviously upstage the TN52 when thats not it's intention. Considering there is a TN53K in the works.

I'm bemused why Focal Australia have priced the 165KR2 above the 165K2P though..
It may drop when the KRX2 sets are finally released but time will tell. Maybe the 165KRX2 might be in the upwards of 1k mark.. ?? dunno

All I can say is the 165KR2 does not replace the K2P, the KRX2 replaces the K2P and it's not out yet.
I think FHRX have just misconcieved the new releases.

According to a dealer press release I have here in front of me, the K2P and the KP are to be replaced by these two new products once existing stocks are depleted (while the KF is being discontinued altogether). However, I've just rang Bill at East Coast Distributors (the importer of Focal Car Audio products in Australia) for confirmation and he reiterated that the 165KR2 and 165KR are to replace the 165K2P and 165KP respectively (as opposed to being adding to the line up).

The 165KRX2 are due in the future and will be 4 ohm and feature the new tweeter. I'll will publish further details as they emerge. biggrin.gif

Do you have any further information on these Juls?

No thats about it to date..

I'll be hanging out for the KRX's though. smile.gif
the new three ways with 3" midrange has my credit card trying to hide... tongue.gif

Seems strange to replace the K2p with the KR2,
Change the Midbass to 2ohm and use a new tweeter based around a TNB which is
a lower model tweeter.

thats why i felt the KRX2 would replace the K2P, as it had a new midbass and a TN53K tweeter. (which would be a updated version of the TN52)
When they finally release all this stuff it will make more sense i guess. smile.gif

I agree; I too hope it gets cleared up sooner rather than later - for dealers and consumers alike. It does tend to get a little messy during the transition period between old ranges finishing up and new ranges being introduced.

Mind you; this is a walk in the park compared to when Stinger changed product lines earlier this year. ohmy.gif

Thanks guys for trying to clear this up, it's confusing.. as Fhrx said I hope it does get cleared up sooner rather than later, as I'm about to do a new install in my car. As I was pretty keen on getting the KR2's, as they mentioned they were the replacement for the K2P's. Might be better off sticking with the K2P's. Might have to give Focal Australia a call before purchasing.

Nice find.. hmm, very interesting indeed!
Looks like Focal Australia are a bit confused on the new lineup saying the 165KR2's are ment to replace the 165K2P's, as everyone has been saying. I take it those release dates are for Japan, hopefully Focal Aus gets them around the same time, cause I'd like to go for the 165KRX2. Might have to have get in contact with Focal Australia and see if they know anything about this.

drinks.gif cletusb.

*UPDATE* I just spoke to Focal Australia they recon the 165KRX2 are coming out August/September. sad.gif
cletusb
Arg I didn't want to wait that long to install

Did Focal OZ have pricing at all davie?

davie
Yeah, I don't I'll be waiting that long either.

I didn't ask them to be honest, my guess they'll be around the $1k mark.
Juls
It's funny everything I said in my first post of this thread has been proven correct,
except everyone seemed to just pass it off as wrong.. and reasked questions I already answered.

lol oh well.. i had also spoken to Focal Aus before i posted my first post.
they didn't know anything about the KRX series until i sent them the pictures ect.

Nothing against focal aus or FHRX both have given exceptional service to me over the years. Both excellent companys in this industry.

Juls
cletusb
Obviously nothing against you Juls because you were right, but people were going by what the distributor had released and people are always going to give more credit news from offical sources than non-offical ones.
Just my 2c

Where did you get your info?
Juls
Totally understand.

I found the information and images on the internet, then found focals information on focal Aus website, being confused I asked them what was going on, they didn't even know about the KRX speaker.

basically, Focal France didn't properly inform Focal Aus, so of course there information was a little bit off.. which they told there dealers. Dealers obviously only repeat what they are told.

it still remains unknown exactly what is what, but what i originally thought I still feel is right.

Juls
cletusb
Ah ok, I've tried the focal france website and they still don't have anything on the KRX either sad.gif

The latest Focal retail pricelist is on our website (under the products page). I checked with the importer and it is still the current Australian pricelist to date.

No prices on the 165KRX2 or 165KRX3 then...?
Fhrx
That is the current Focal Australia pricelist. As soon as we get the next update it will be uploaded and announced as per normal.

What are people's opinions on the KR2's (not the KR's) as I'm unable to audition them? I know about the tweeter, I'm just wondering about the woofer. Have the K2P's got more mid bass? I'm probably going to have a listen the K2P's tomorrow. drinks.gif
