anyone know where in Melb i could get a quote on an LPG conversion for a '06 lux? (4.0l petrol)

tis either going to be this or sell the ute and buy a Yaris!
~Spyne~
buy a motorbike, and rig it up for sq comps!!!
~Sparkles~
No one I can really recommend - always had issues with LPG systems in the past with EFI cars - though I havent used any of the newer LPG systems.

Buy a YARIS!
Fudd
might go to the dealership on the weekend and see what i can do for a trade-in on a midget car
fury
You'd fit in a midget car?
~Sparkles~
what about a 2nd hand echo?

Do you have to get a 'yota again?
mac_man_luke
if going LPG get the vapour phase injection system, effectively rules out the reliability problems with a mixer type system and can lead to power gains rather than loss

well i was thinking a secondhand yaris, should almost be a straight swap over haha.

dont have to get a 'yota but would be easier cause the finance is through toyota and the insurance.
~Sparkles~
Don't let the fact that your finance is through toyota affect your buying.

All our cars (up untill dads last Rangie sports which is financed through Land Rover) over the last 10 years have been financed by daimler-chrysler. None of us have ever owned a daimler-chrysler vehicle in that period.

Make sure this one comes with AC tongue.gif
Fudd
haha yeah it will def have AC!

been thinking of a Pug 206gti... small, fuel efficiant, sporty etc
DB JAY
guy on newlands road in coburg did my lux.
been great and i have never had a problem (touch wood)
but alot of these gas conversion guys are totally flat out at the moment from what i hear
Marc
Whoah ... where did you come from? LOL

I'd trade it fudd, that is of course if you don't need the ute for ute duties?
Fudd
only ute duties i need it for is when the mattress is in the back wink.gif
Marc
Haha silly.gif

how about one of these, best of both worlds and would be better fuel economy then a yaris!
~Sparkles~
LMFAO ^
Fudd
hahaha thats cool!!

going hopefully this weekend to start looking at cars.
was trying to last weekend but seemed to have been moving stuff in the ute all weekend sad.gif

i have an older triton ute running on gas at the moment and have had no problems with it at all, the gas has been on for the better part of a year and a half and runs like a dream,

i would suggest against getting the vapour system because i have a couple mates that have all recently gone the vapour system and all the cars run like absolute buckets of puss on gas and there looking at actually taking it off

i have a 120L gas tank and run only on gas, the petrol side of things has been completely taken out and im told its the best way to go, a mixture of fuel and gas is apparently hard to get a car to run well on but if it is on one or the other it can be tuned to run better.... thats what all the mechanics have said that i have talked to anyways

good luck with it

Matt VIP
anyone know any good ones in canberra?
sean
A freind of mine went to look at YARIS's a couple of weeks ago. Took it for a test drive with the dealer and planted the foot when entering the freeway onramp - it just reved out and went nowhere... The dealer said 'what are you doing? If you want to accellerate you need to put your foot down a lot more gradually'. Suffice to say no sale! rolleyes.gif
Fudd
i have taken a couple for a spin now, dont mind them.
way way less power than my ute sad.gif a good 100kw less
blanketman
so who reccommends who ??
and why

thinking of strait gas
~Sparkles~
DO IT

I'd recommend Mondo motors in Moorabbin. (PM me if you need a number cause its the mechanics not the car yard - though they are the same business)

Not because i have experiance with them doing LPG conversions - but as mechanics they are awesome. Very good customer service etc.

Most of these gas conversion places use kits from only about 3 or 4 suppliers so there really isnt much difference between them other than the installers attention to detail.
blanketman
but strait gas
apart from gas research
who can tell me more people
and the car is an Explorer
4.6 v8
~Sparkles~
gas research is nothing special since they were bought and moved to QLD (typical QLDers being too lasy to develop the technology further tongue.gif) basically every one else has caught up or even surpassed gas research. Look into Liquid injection, its definately the best technology (that I know of) out there.

Look into the type of system you want first - then look for suppliers - theres also a good fitter in officer but I believe he is only working on diesel gas fumigation now
blanketman
who in officer??
~Sparkles~
I wouldnt do your car on LPG

Spoke with a freind and he said the Explorers have a very soft head and the valves gt burned out from the LPG.

He said you will struggle to find any one who will do it and those that will do it obviously have NFI what they are doing
blanketman
im looking at Liquid gas injection
just on the horizon atm

i can get the svi for about 4.5k

~Sparkles~
4.5k is a lot of fuel...
mad_bison
blanketman i have liquid sequential injection on my car.

it's a 91 mazda wagon..so obviously things are a little different...but still tricky to do.

you can get 4cyl vogas lsi kits for about 500quid on ebay. then you need to fit it...
blanketman
my car is a little big bigger than a 4 cyl
heheheh

doubly

but that is the set up i want

and $4.5k for an install could be paid back in about 2-3 years
Fudd
is that 4.5k after the 2k rebate?
blanketman
nah
before rebate

so about 2.5k for my car after rebate

you like saying rebate cause it sounds like master bate
mad_bison
well vogas do do 8cyl kits.

slightly more expensive...but still the same principle.

you could run 90% lpg, and 10% petrol, and that would save your soft valve seats.

I'm an apprentice auto electrician & my boss tells every person who comes in asking which system to go with, to go with the vapour system as the liquid injection system is hopeless. I dont know why, as I dont know much bout gas at all, but yea thats an auto electricians view.
We are always changing fuel pumps on duel fuel cabs, as they dont run the car on fuel enough. The fuel pumps get foulled up with crap if they dont get used for 1hour out of a 12 hour shift.
When you install a vapour system, you loose about 20% of power/responsiveness.
Factory LPG is the way to go. Ford sell a lot of these & they are used by the government, then for cabs. The engine is tuned for gas.
