yes the laptop is a toshiba, and its currently running Vista.

i have seen Mac OS's on other PCs but not a laptop, but who ever let something like that stop anyone smile.gif

i have played with it at a friends place, he has 2 PC's running constantly with mac OS's going and never had a problem.
more than i can say for the mac's i have used! every mac i have been on from IIe to macbooks have crashed, locked up and done weird crap just like a PC, the main reason i want to do this is cause i have troubles when i send stuff off to our printers and they change the file to suit Mac Indesign. (well, the fonts) so i rather do it myself and make sure it is perfect.

and Apple hardware is not really different to PC, from what i can find my toshi lappy has a similar MoBo to the macbook, just some slight differences but nothing that will stop me running it fine.

Yep, I tried it on an IBM Thinkpad a while back.
Worked absolutely perfectly with WinXP dual boot.

Isn't it violating something in the Apple license agreement though?

violating who what and when?

Pretty sure that even if you buy Mac OS through legitimate channels (it's pretty cheap for what you get) you are supposed to install it on Apple hardware.

Bill, despite his many shortcomings, allows us to install his operating system on a Mac, however.

I personally don't give a crap about this at home, but at work (a college) I have to do the 'right thing'. So, I would get my ass kicked for dual booting XP and Mac OS in the multimedia labs, TRYING TO GIVE STUDENTS AS MUCH INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT BUYING MAC HARDWARE, BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD IT!!!

Meh, gives me the poo's.

My GF got around this by using 'some program' to port the Mac fonts across to XP.
About half the companies she sends things to (freelance) solely run Macs, so I assume this overcomes the problem.

I don't use any of these programs much, so there could be other issues tongue.gif

I downloaded the licence agreement and it's very clear:

"This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. You agree not to install, use
or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer"

They obviously know that they've got a good O/S but overpriced hardware.

Shouldn't you be worried about this, considering you're using it for business?
Fudd
well initialy it will be run at home on my personal laptop.

but the future may include a dual boot for my work PC....

i wanna know how companys like Psystar are getting around the licence agreement?

i should have a copy of Leo in the next 2 days.
then ill start work on getting it on the lappy..

only slight hicup will be that my DVD dive is not working at the moment. might get in the way.. unless i can install it over LAN

As far as I can see, from a bit of 'net cruising, Psystar are constantly getting into trouble with Apple tongue.gif

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, hell, i'd definitely do the same in your situation, but i'm just bringing up the negatives in case someone else decides to go down the same track and is unaware of all the crap that goes with it.
Fudd
yeah thats fair enough.
ill take the risk as it dosnt really worry me.

if i get caught from apple ill just throw my ipod at them and run haha.

Why dont you just buy a mac?
Fudd
why waste my money on a mac when i can make one from a PC? tongue.gif

it's cheeper and i have no real use for a mac.
Selfdestruktor
I dunno whether it would work, but you could try loading it up in Virtual PC 2007.
That way it won't interfere with anything else (possibly stuffing up your MBR or something) and you can ditch it easily by deleting a single .VHD file.

I might dig my copy of Tiger out and try it actually....

Edit: Seems most people have more luck with VMWare.
Fudd
yeah i have been looking into running it via Vmware.

i might download it again (it's free now!) and give it a try smile.gif
