Hi.

I've posted today regarding my proposed set up and decided a post here would better suit.

aiming for SQ.

Current possessions;

alpine HU 07 model CDA-9856
alpine pdx 1.400 and 1.600
focal 130ca and 130cv1

I would like a SQ sub and have been recommended alpine type R 12? which suits my pdx 1.600 amp

I've asked some others on this forum whom have used better type x and thank them duly for their good feed back and opinions.

opinions are; JL 10W6v2, these are well within budget 200us, v type-X at 174us or 95us for type-R , considering focal though are $$$ and only available locally at tonkins and arn't on demo?.

Considering upping front a rear stage drivers, from the focal catalogue. I very much like the sound of focal main stage drivers and wish to stay loyal.

I would also like to up the front stage preferable to 6.5 inch driver for better mid bass response: if any one knows the best option for the fitments of 6.5 up front? (bmw E30)

Options for acquiring needed drivers and equipment for best pricing? currently ebay is my friend

thanks all

Heya,

Buy the Mille sub in this thread, you simply cannot do any better for that price.

that is, if you can afford it, but seriously, these subs are amazing.

Hi, Thanks for the heads up, sorry the link does not work?

I had a google on the mille sub? is it by Hertz? Is so i will need some serious amp to run that beast! It looks like a spl woofer?

Cheers

with the focal front speakers, I recommend the KBE midbass kit - it's got passive crossover to run midbass, and then use the rest of what you have for the midrange and tweeter. good results.

as for the sub, Focal are worth it - try extending your budget for this by saving on the front stage speakers (i.e. the KBE kit is much cheaper than a new complete set).

heya,

Sorry, no idea why the link did not work.

Check out the for sale section, page 2 (currently) with this heading
"FS [SA] - TermLab, Rainbow iPaul Amp, Hertz Mille subs, ODYSSEY 2150 ADDED "

The Mille is an SQ sub, it will push some nice bass, but it is meant for SQ not SPL. It does require serious power, but would run well off less than the recommended max.

If I had the cash I would buy them yesterday sad.gif

Cheers found it!

Wow , some dam nice gear!!!

It would be nice driver addition. having looked into the driver it rates well, though the box size recommendations are astronomical to what I'm after; a 30+L sealed job will more than take up any manageable space within the aria allowed. Though it's not dismised...

The amp i have should be fine for them though an Alpine PDX 1.1000 may be in the order

I've settled on the JL 10W6v2.D4, for many points including the sealed recommended enclosure of 17L

cheers ....

Any particular reason why you want a sealed enclosure?
Maybe have a look into Infinite Baffle alignments if you are serious about SQ. Generally a much larger then 10inch sub is employed for this however.

hi a.12912 smile.gif I have a e30 as well - I can tell you its no fun trying to get 6.5 inch drivers in the kicks sad.gif I had mine there for a while, but there just isnt enough room between the accelerator pedal and the speaker. I currently have my mid woofers in the doors, mid range in the kicks, and tweets on the dash. It seems to work pretty well staging wise.

BMWTurbo - I dont know anyone who competes with an IB sub enclosure tongue.gif Most people (amatuer and Pro alike) go for Sealed because its simpler, easier, and just as effective wink.gif

This is true, sealed/ported can be much simpler and easier to implement effectively.

*ears to the ground though* wink.gif

Not to mention, the rear garnish behind the number plate on an e30 can only cope with minute amounts of Bass before vibrating to hell... biggrin.gif

I just covered this in Dynamat in the 7, seemed to stop the large majority of it.

Cheers on the heads up Timmeh,

I'm leaning toward your suggestion.

I know they can be fitted, though as many good suggestions and information has come flying my way, I've decided to keep it simple for now. I'll utilise my focal 130v1 components in the kicks and do as suggested earlier on if i feel the need to by adding a mid driver to the install in a door build out.

as you have done with your innstall...

thanks

Rattles are the least of my worries, it is a BMW .

The garnish rattles, I'm planing to use a alloy plate behind the number plate to give the garnish some strength. the only other resonant / rattles that i encumber are from the rear fire wall, though this is a given with the current set up,(sub firing into back seat, ski port)

I punched (well, malleted) out the ski port, and have my sub facing into the car as you do. Is your port still in place?

I carefully removed the removable plate that was in place, unfortunately i don't have a back seat with accessible ski port, only singular one peace seat foam.

the current sub is in that configuration and it proper distorts and resonates surrounding panels. the new arrangement is planed to be firing from LH corner to RH tail light.

cheers

Old BMW's are a pain for SQ with that lovely wall of metal inbetween your boot and passenger bay.

Good luck, and photos of your install would be much appreciated (I need ideas for my install too biggrin.gif)

I can't do anything to the steel wall in my e21 due to laws here, so it's a nice small sub behind the passenger seat for me..

That is, you know, after I put my engine back together.
