Guys,
Recently Kel and I bought a house. Thats all good and well.
We were going to get a land line and then get ADSL connected. But after having a couple of reps in from 3 today at work Im seriously concidering 3's wireless broadband. I'm right in their coverage zone and their "average" speed is still faster than what I could get on a similarly priced package from an ADSL provider.
$49 for 6 gig (kels and exisiting post paid 3 customer) to me seems fairly good concidering that I wouldnt use 6gig and it saves me needing to get a landline.
Does any one have any reasons why I shouldn't get this?
Any one with any experiance with 3 (or any of the "3G" networks (including Telstra NextG) wireless broadband)

expected speed and realised speed are very different for wireless connections.
I would anticipate ADSL 1500 to be more reliable, and if you can get nakedDSL that's better for no phone line.
if you're just casual surfing with the odd download then go for it, but watch you don't "accidentally" get bumped off to a Tel$tra tower - big $$$ for that, not sure if it notifies before connecting.

Pulse, if no 3g available, you don't go to standard GSM network for itnernet, you simply don't get connectivity..
3G speed is on par with the slowest ADSL1 speed (256k) incl overheads.. but with 3g where's the room for upgrading should you want to? ADSL is getting cheaper and far faster.. I admittedly don't know a great deal on 3G to say if there's ever such thing as its technology advancing to become much more faster.. but ADSL will always advanced faster/cheaper and is known it can (ADSL2 is very quick and becoming the minimum).
Also you should look into Naked DSL technology, no phone line rental required

Naked DSL is crap
I did the sums and I think from memory I can get a phone line with a working number for an additional $5 for my $ if im having a wired connection then $5 per month is worth it

ok on the 'no-bump'
3.5G is faster than 3G, and is where '3' goes for wireless broadband.

I got 3 moblie it is great.
You can use it in any 3g spot out side of that it still works but cost you more and yes it warns you before connecting.
Never had a problem with it.
I pay $49 for 2gb and never gone over it i will change when my plan is over.

That sums that up! I do recall when I checked it out once being way overpriced for what you can get for slightly more.
3.5g and 3g, same from 3 isn't it?

WOW just got pricing off telstra
$238 to match the traffic. Sure they might be faster and might have better coverage but they sure as eggs arent worth nearly 5x the price

vodafone is $39 for 5gig a month.
uses HSDPA where available the same as the 3 network one. so it's pretty fast.
i was using my sisters 3g one the other night and was getting 140+Kbps download speeds which is fast enough when you only have a few gig!

yeah @ home we have a 1500 connection and to behonest its not that much faster than the 512 business we have here at work becuase most servers cant push it down as fast as we can dl
plus I dont do much downloading at all I'm more a web browser. This site, Patrol 4x4 and fleebay really are the only sites I use other than if one of those sites has a link to another site that i might check out for a bit. So speed realistically isnt the be all and end all of it for me.
I have to admit I have even contemplated just getting the land line and a cheap dialup package for the amount of use we have for it (being that both of us have web access at work)

is this wireless internet with a sim card ? HSPDA?
mine is with vodaphone and on HSDPA (2100mhz ) I get 140k or better. the down side is if you go past the 5gb limit. then it hurts! have yet to hit it and I'm always on the phone (VOIP) or net.

i applied for a Vodafone one last week, they have come back to me saying that where i live is a 3G zone and just out of the HSPDA area..
i have to call them to tell them to continue with the order or not..
i know on my mobile it go's in and out of HSPDA a bit, do i take the risk or should i leave it??

I have two clients using the 3Mobile Broadband USB. Both are located to far from an exchange. Since installation around 15months ago, theyre yet to experience a drop-out. So this has proven to be the perfect solution.
PS: Used in Perth on desktop PCs running Windows XP Pro.

I just installed a 3Mobile Broadband USB modem to the laptop of one of the guy's at work this afternoon.
Software installed and connected without a drama.
I think he said he was paying $25 per month with a 2 Gb download .... looked like a nice setup.
