ebay
jaycar have a DC-DC powersupply, but I really do not like the look of it.
the motherboard/cpu can be any motherboard/cpu that has the processing power you require, keeping in mind that your PSU will need to be able to run it.

i dont think jaycar have any dc-dc regulated supplied as is needed by sensitive items like carpcs and touchscreens.
correct me if i am wrong though.

You are wrong. Jaycar have a dc - dc computer power supply, to use a computer in a car. However i don.t like the look of it.

thats cool. jaycar have been talking about bringing them too australia for quite a while.
they released a really nice one a couple of years ago but only a few made it to the market.
thanks for the link

i wonder what regulation is. it says 12v input but you would really want something more like 9-16v regulated which it could well be....

thats a very good point, if it needs a regulated 12 volt input, then its completely useless!

I just spoke to jaycar LOL.
The guy said to me it is 12v + or - 5%
So 11.4 or 12.6.
Not exactly suited for car, i wouldnt think.
But what the guy said to me was equally as funny (i heard his manager tell him to tell me).
"It is designed for a car so it should be right. If it gets the wrong voltage it will destroy the psu before the computer components so just bring the psu back under warranty if it happens."
I dont think id like to put it to the test

LOL!!
a motherboard/hard drive will take 12 volts at +-5%, in other words, the PSU isn't even regulating the 12 volts, its just giving the car battery voltage on the 12 volt rail!!!
its going to destroy your computer!

looking at the pics of it, it is a switchmode so there may be some regulation

might want to consider solid state hard drives?
i've wondered how a hard drive fares in a car environment...???????
computer prices look fair to me, sorry i cant help on much more (if an MSY is on your way to 'that' shop, could save you a few bob on the motherboard and cpu)

try www.thunderbirdcomputing.com.au for some of the parts, they could sell you all the computer parts and the power supplies but i think that is about it. there site is outdated aswell so you would have to email them for current pricing...

id go for a 2.5" drive because they are more suited to movement etc

Solid state hard drives will be the way to go, but even now there still a new tech and it may cost a bit to get a large one. I agree with you mac man Luke. 2.5 hard drives are designed to be a bit tougher that a standard 3.5 hd.
THLAD79 i would go to eBay for your 4 port usb hub, i got an 8 port for less than $1 and shipping was fine, just had to tap the external wire into a +5 volt source out of the pc and its great! And the other parts you have stated will more than likely have to be imported unfortunately.
With a gps receiver setup, i was going to do the same as you install it later but i found a really good receiver from jay car for 150. Its more costly to the other receivers out there but i cant fault this at all, always got very strong signal, picks up sats very easy
Also have you tought about what your going to do to get your sound from your pc?

a hard drive can take shocks up to 3g's I think.
that being said a 2nd hand one from a laptop could be the way to go.

2.5" hd for sure because there more shock resistant then 3.5", way cheaper then soild state and use very little power. Thats a nice board for a carpc, there also tops for htpc's
