Congrats Billy on the SPL King.

congrats on the scores. any loading probs still billy?

It never was a loading problem.

Every time Billy went to four amps, two woofers were running out of phase! Hence the damaged woofers!

The D6 and Z1a are almost identical, however the D6 has a phase control. When on 0 they were actually 180 degrees out of phase relative to the Z1a.

We had to run one bank of amps out of phase to the other, the result was 161.6 on Team Boomz meter and a 161 official. Billy now needs dual 0.5 coils and he'll see 164 with a bit more work on the port and wall smoothing. Thanks to Leo for his magic gunk also. smile.gif

I'm still worried about the phasing, we'll need to get his car on a dual trace CRO to check it, better still Billy should get four of the same amps.

A phase control could be useful on a single amp for SQ tuning, but trying to match four in an SPL car is just not on!

All in all it was a great day. Thanks to Angelo and all the competitors who turned out, congrats to all the new record holders.

Congrats to everyone there on the day... Massive thanks to Angleo for keeping everything running smoothly and Massive thanks x 20 to sandra and ross and the boys from team manual shed for all your help all day!!!

Steet Stock A is turning into a great class it was hard fought all day with no clear winner right up to the finals... nez bang was consistant 140's all day luke and pumping out scores from 139 - 141 all day. I got lucky with a new box and woofer (not run in) that was fairly untested and pulled something out of my proverbial... Bring your friends as the 3 of us had an ball all day.. I lost count of the number of runs that we had...

I have a bit of a problem with this one.

dB Drag rules state "Veteran contestants, competition teams, and "hardcore" competitors are encouraged to compete in one of our other divisions."

Street Stock is a development class, intended to get new blood into dB Drag. I really don't think the son of an importer, borrowing a shop owner's car really falls into this class.

Phil
Cleutin
in that case, any new competitor who gets help from veteran competitors shouldnt be in their either.

eg, a new member joins Team Boomz, with the experience that the team can provide to that person, advice, box building, testing and tuning... then they should compete in a different class.

That's a bit different. If someone owns the car and the gear I'd say that's OK as long as they're not associated with the industry.

can you teach me how to get <140?

of course...if team boomz builds a car, then lends it to team boomz's little sister to compete at SAS and she runs an Oz record, then...unknw.gif

Roo, you have already spoken to about your comments towards me and Team Boomz.

They are not in a joking manner and you full well know it.

Cease in your defamtory comments or further action will be taken as you were warned with last time.

Do remember that i am NOT the only member of Team Boomz. your comments not only target me but the rest of the Team.

On page 2 & 3 you made what could easily be considered defamatory comments about:

Autobarn
Alpine
Digital Designs
Fusion

edit: I dont know how I stumbled across those posts, found them the other day, must have linked from somewhere (f.ucks me)

That's the $1,000,000 question to which no one really knows the answer.

I love it though, seeing this immaturity still going on makes me feel like I never left the scene.

If I ever I need a chuckle, just jump on here and go through the old SPL threads, hours of side splitting stuff there. laugh.gif

Charger
QUOTE
let see, 7x 3000rms (rated) amp @ $1198 (RRP) each and we do 160.9db

Autobarn Capalaba Civic with 8x DDZ1a amps rated at 5000rms each and RRP of $3599 each and do 161.2 before they BLEW UP THEIR UNRELAIBLE AMPS

160.9db for $ 8386
161.2db for $28792

$20 000 difference and only 0.3 db in it

Austen running on 12v batteries
Civic running on 16v batteries

Austen needs less power to run their amps, amps cost less and are more reliable. clearly 0.3db is not a bad sacrifice to make to save $20 000

lets throw in the subs aswell...

Austen 7x OA Pro 12" subs RRP $399 each
Civic 2x OA DD99Z18 subs RRP $5999 each

7 x $399 = $2793
2x $5999 = $11998

add subs and amps together

Austen = $8386 + $2793 = $11179
Civic = $28792 + $11998 = $40790

So for an extra $29611 the Civic is 0.3db louder then the Austen

Wow what a load of sh.it!
DD Phil
QUOTE (Charger @ Jun 2 2008, 11:57 PM) *
Wow what a load of sh.it!

Exactly.

Billy's car with two Z1a was louder than the Austin with seven amps.

Capalaba's car did 161.8 with four Z1a, that's $14396

Capalaba's Civic does not use 99Z18s, it runs 9518 + composite cones, $1999ea, that's $3998

Total cost of gear for 161.8 $18394.

It went on to 162.3 at Wagga off eight amps, winning SPL King 2007.

Unfortunately when the car was left playing music for over an hour without the chargers on, the front 12V battery went flat, causing bad signal from the source unit and amp failures. This is something that would never happen in a normal vehicle, especially if the amps were fused. But given that it is an SPL car and has no fuses, these things happen!

Capalaba's Civic has never had an amp or woofer fail in competition.

Phil

Well what can i say its 1.19am and we got home.
As for the weekend we had a blast.
I like to thank Phil for the loan of his garage and termlab and coming thru for us.
Carl for letting us dump our trailer at his house.
Brad for holding a BBQ at his shop(on behalf of George and Sandra) and being so hospitable
George and Sandra for suppling great food and great company.
And last but not least Angelo and his Dad for making it all happen and driving the 18 hours good.gif
It was great to see everyone helping each other and just having a great day and there was no real us and them attitude and everyone from nsw was made to feel welcome by all the Queenslanders good.gif

Mick... Back in less than a fortnight but disappearing again for awhile on holidays. Enjoying some well earned time off.

Finally got the link to work. Wow Matt.... You've definately done yourself a massive favour and increased your reputation and profile within the car audio industry with alot of your comments. You should realise there is nowhere you can hide on the internet. Just ask the guy that bought my pulsar then tried to clam it as his own on Nissansylvia.com...

Here are some of my favourite comments. Just for some of those that can't be bothered checking the link out...

QUOTE
Jaycar DOES indeed come from the same factory as MB Quart.... and use all the rejected parts that dont meet MB quart's satisfaction.

I guess working for Autobarn you dont get to hear good SQ much.

funny that... since the best speakers that Autobarn carries is Option Audio.

looks like there is a major lack of communication in the Autobarn ranks.... not suprised really, explains why im always fixing up Autobarn installs.

QUOTE
Well, never seen a box like that, and never want to again....

worst place for an amp is on the box... but go to Autobarn and they will tell you its the best place.

Remove Alpine, buy good deck.

Alpine is crap. they rely on their old products no longer in production that gave them their "godlike" status in car audio.
Lots of better stuff out there.
and because i recommened a budget Sony unit to someone in another thread is no reason to bring it up in here.
although, Sony do make 2 BT units that dont require the purchase of an additional module like Alpine Bluetooth units do...

QUOTE
i drive a sedan, all i have is amp'd splits and sub and its more then loud enough (picks me up trophies at sound offs)

well. as someone who has won MULTIPLE SOUND QUALITY trophies, designed and build hundreds of competition level systems.

a cap is a waste of time and money

What... All those seconds and thirds??

Multiple Sound Quality trophies??? Seriously??

QUOTE
As an installer my car represents me and my knowledge and skills.

Leave yourself a bit open with that one fella. How is that laser going....

QUOTE
why do people insist on full alpine systems...
Alpine have good CD/DVD players, thats all.
CD player with Front, Rear, AND Sub out RCA, Rear AUX, flip down and removable face, fully adjustable EQ, RRP $429, i can get them for you for under $200
Speakers, OA605R, lay crap all over Alpine Type R Splits

Wow... thats almost a straight shot at me!! Let us know when you win anything worthwhile. You know, a state championship or something...

QUOTE
Fusion is rebadged crap from tailand.
Fusion just badge stuff that is already on the market overseas
Rockford and MB Quarts are considered mid to low end.
JL audio, mid range
Dynaudio, high end - but at up to and over $2k for a set of front speakers you would expect them to be damn good.

I just want you to know, you finally said something I agree with. Dyn arent to bad at all...

QUOTE
Alpine is great for CD/DVD players and some of their old amps.

speakers and new amps.... need to be pissed on.

Alpine is only relying on its name earnt from products they used to make.
the last 3-4 years have been pretty down for Alpine.
they still charge through the roof though.
lot better stuff out there and for less $$ aswell.

So.... after all that, I get the feeling your in a world of hurt. In alot of circles, some of the comments you have made would be considered SLANDER. I'll be having words to a close personal friend who is a senior mod on the nissansylvia site and making him aware of your comments. I know he won't be to happy about them and he doesnt even like car audio.

Personally, after all that, I think your a knob. And to my own shame, I agree with most of the comments coming from Roo.

Sorry for the long post but I had time to kill....

Wood
